I have been reading with interest about swapping to a new style intake and I read a comment (after I follwed the link ) that a guy made who did the swap. He said the intake could give 15 horses but it isn't for the high rev guys. Is this true ? If I am planning on a street jeep , is this type of swap not for me ?

There is already 2 threads on this that are current. But yes it is for lower end power because of the runners and it is up to you to decide if it is for you. It is not supposed to take that much away from the high end though.

reading those threads is what got me interested but I didn't want to hi jack them to ask about the RPM thing. I didn't mean to come off anal about the search but there is an ever rotating group of people and ideas evolve , I just like to keep current , I am sorry if anybody took it wrong or thought I was being an ass

i'd definatly say it smoothed out my bottom end with the bored out throttle body. i also read the artical awhile in jp mag tgat indicated a 15 horse increase. i think i'd feel "15 hp" more than i did. it certainly helps but it wasn't the instant v8 feel. no regrets though. and it does pull better through the upper rpm. the bored tb actualy had more effect there (upper range)from watching my tach..
just my personal obsevation, individual results may vary! :laugh3:

Don't know if this will help you any, but I have an '01 XJ with the new intake and a '98 ZJ with the old. They both have 3.55's. The ZJ is a little heavier, but honestly they both feel very similar. In my opinion, unless you can get the newer style intake for free I wouldn't worry with it. Our '98 4.0 runs just as good as our '01, the only difference is you can feel the extra weight of the ZJ. Hope this helps.
