So I quit my job today...

...and it only reinforced my wanting to get teh fawk outta there. I'm waiting for a 'real' job to come through while I'm finishing up my last semester of a loooong Bachelor's degree program. Until today, I was working at Safeway, cutting meat and cleaning the Deli for a whopping 20 hours a week.

Anyway, I walked in to the "Customer Service" desk and was promptly greeted by the smiling wonder behind the counter. I had ridden my bike over there and put my helmet and a bag containing my uniform on the counter. I told her I was quitting, and here's my uniform..she took the bag, and started reaching for my helmet too. WTF? Since when is that part of the Safeway attire? :wierd: Then it got worse; she thanked me for telling her, and asked if I had any other shopping to do??? Don't they have friggin' drug tests or minimum IQ standards for a job like that? Did she really think in her feeble backbrain that I wanted to quit and then fill up a grocery cart?

What a shithole...I never liked shopping Slaveway anyhow, and getting a job with them was an ill-timed fluke. They're the #2 grocer in Colorado and slipping...for a reason.

?!?

Dumb as a bag of hammers - and they wonder why they're called "servicedroids." I'd ask what they were thinking, but that statement logically implies the presence of higher brain function (above that required for basic speaking and voluntary bodily functions and motor reflex, of course...)

Good luck. What degree were you finishing again?

"servicedroids" - funny thing is that I was going to call her a servicebot but figured nobody would get the attempt at humor. I was stunned when she asked me that, and unbelievably couldn't come up with anything even resembling a sarcastic answer. Such is the stupidity oozing from that building.

Criminal Justice - I plan to use my degree in the pursuit of running a bar or a 4x4 shop of some sort. I figure it's taken me 18 years and five or six colleges to get this far so I should make the most of it ;)

Hmm - criminal justice major, and you want to run a bar or a shop? Make sense - at least it wasn't journalism or poli-sci...

If you want to help with a shop, I'm hoping to be opening one in Flagstaff in a couple years or so - once I finish my Auto Engine Machining, Auto Engine Performance, Tool & Die Maker, and Mechanical Engineering...

If you're serious about Flag, then contact me.

I've been here +20 years and know lots of people. If I don't know them personally, then I have a friend who does.

Open it in Tucson, more people, and then I can take advantage of your knowledge more often...its a long drive to get up there...:D

let me in on this - my dream of opening a 4x shop is my motive to get out ot bed for 7:30 am calculus every day...

so isnt it about time you get some sleep?

Sleep? Who? As far as Journalism and PoliSci...it's bad enough that the CJ field is in the Socialism..errr...Sociology Dept of the Liberal Arts college here. Makes me want to puke with all the friggin' patchouli and communist BS they spout off all the time.

Congrats on doing it Jim. It really sounded like that place was driving you up the wall. Their loss, if they want to lose the only employee they have with a good work ethic, then screw em! :D Karma will bring you the goods in time.

My wife's a Sociologist. Don't forget those are all just THEORIES. I capitalize it, because its one of those social 'sciences' that remains unproven due to the fact that there is absolutely no way to provide proof for anything on the macro level. An old psych prof of mine once said "I don't trust anything that can't be rudimentarily tested. That's why I don't heed the 'research' done by the pseudo-sciences like astrology, numerology, sociology, aromatherapy and the like..." I just LOVE to quote that one back to my wife. Hours of fun...

So I quit my job today... too

Sociologist

every Sociologist I have met made me want to kick them in the face within 3 minutes of talking to them. I have never felt so belittled or insulted in my life other than soc 111 in college. Prof kept reffering to us as mindless drones and "the mass"
grr there is nothing "mass" about me...

anyway sorry bout the surpressed feelings :flipoff:

I quit my job today too!
rock on!
good luck dude:repair: wrench happy

Current target for going official on WIP as a shop is +/- five years - I've got to finish school as well (getting up at 0615 to make a 0730 class - EIGHT DAMN MILES AWAY! Two more years of it, and I'll have three AS degrees. Then, to finish my BS/MET.)

Oh - Tuscon is a non-starter - I HATE HEAT! Come on up to Flag instead - it's much nicer.

I'll have to build the place, but that's in the plan as well. I'm wanting to get a nice big chunk of AZ, put the house in the middle, and the shop at one end. Mostly customs (special-application stuff, like travel rigs, tow rigs, and off-road stuff) and special parts are what I've got in mind for the moment. My wife is kicking around idea for the "travel rigs," since we've done some cross-country driving. Mobile offices come to mind as well - I've got lots of fun ideas.

Jim, Opie, Fergie - we'll probably be talking over the next few years to lay groundwork for this. Might have a good core going...
