I bet you like that title don't you. Anyways i bought a 1990 jeep cherokee wagoneer edition with the woodgrain paneling and the 4 front headlights. This thing is super clean and has a red leather interior that still is in good shape. It doesnt run right now (working on that) but it was originally parked only because it wouldn't start. I got it for $550 dollars and I want to make it a toy. I would like to put the 14 bolt I have in it with a 44 front with 38s. I would like to make it look exactly like norcalxjs. Anyways, how should I lift this thing to put the 38s under it. Don't worry I will be regearing to 5.13s and locking both ends and cutting fenders very generously when the time comes. I am very lucky to come up with such a great looking jeep for the price. Pics will come very soon.-----------Kyle
 
anybody have suggestions on how to lift this thing the best way. I can't do much fabrication, but I have a friend that can do some for me. What is the best way to get it up in the air to run 38s---Kyle
 
I am not sure yet. I know it will take quite a bit of money however, so give me all ideas possible. Cheaper ones would be nice.--------Kyle

Your going to need quite a bit of lift to clear 38's and have good off-road flex. It is easier to clear bigger tires on a 2 door model than a 4 door because there is just so much cutting you can do before your into the rear doors. I would think that you need to convert to long arms or do a leaf spring conv up front, you might need to do a coilover conversion inorder to have the height required to run those tires. 38's are pretty extreme for an xj, but it can be done. I think your going to need around 10" of lift to clear them though so major mods are going to be needed. 35-36" are a lot more reasonable. I have 35" mtrs on my 2 door xj with 7" of lift and generous cutting. That is plenty of tire and lift for just about any kind of wheeling you might want to do.
 
I have 35s on my daily driver. I am not sure I want to stay with 35s as I just want to go bigger since it is just a toy.

I know what you mean, you want a monster, but how much $$$ and time are you willing to spend? I think with full width axles around 65" or so you might be able to free up the wheel wells enough to clear those big meats with the right amt of cutting and lift. Your really not going to be that farther ahead with a 14 bolt and 38" tire compared to a dana 44/ford 8.8/ford 9" etc with 35's. The 14 bolt is very heavy and hangs really low as you probably know.
 
8" of lift and some good trimming and you will be set.

I think it is CheapXJ here on the board that is running 36x12.50s on 4" of lift with MAJOR trimming and fenderwell mods, but it is a 2 door.

I know a guy on 37" boggers that has trimmed and fits fine with 8" though, He is now going to 39.5"

Gets expensive almost nomatter how ya do it. I bought a set of 5 almost new 36x12.50 TSL bias for $550, Front 44 for $150, rear 9" for $100, gears and such are going to run about $400, etc etc....

Do some searches on here and pirate (just don't post unless you have a flamesuit).

Tell me what you think since I bought the project for $500
I really think I am going to go with 8 or so inches of lift with cutting and 38s. I will shave the 14 bolt for clearance and forget about it. With a 9" I would still worry. The front 44 will be done cheap as i can do it, but it will have plenty of goodies. This project will be slow as it will be done as i can afford it but it will get done. Thanks-----------Kyle

Get rid of the "wood" :) Paint over it or something.
 
I kind of like the wood. I think it enhances the rugged look of the cherokee.
