So Cal desert rats

Bill suggested trying to take out the tstat to see if maybe my new tstat is working so I'm gonna try that after it cools down some. I know that this is probably another shot in the dark but has anyone heard of a faulty exhaust system making overheating problems?

If the cat. is plugged it would cause it to run hot because the exhaust heat can't get out of the engine. If cat. is plugged you would have a loss of power and it would glow at night under power.

What Bill said.

One Q for You, have You ever had the cooling system serviced? Block rotted out?

I'm running a three core, flowkooler water pump, ZJ fan clutch with a stock fan and water wetter/water mix. Around town it runs about 210-20, depending on how much traffic their is. Cruzing on the frwy it runs about the same. You don't have one of those in-line filters on the rad hose, do You? I had a t-stat XXXX itself sideways once, cut down the flow by at least 50%.

I have only flushed it with a bottle of the store stuff. I did take it to a guy in cathedral city recommended by scott and he said everything was fine. Also when I did flush it, I didn't really get a lot of crap out, the fluid looked pretty clean

Don't feel like I have power loss, ill have to look for a glow. Thanks

Mine used to overheat, after i went red it stays at 190-195. true story.

Living in Escondido, and not the devils sun room like Us, helps too.:firedevil

I go to Riverslime and It doesn't go over the quarter mark.:bawl:

i was kidding, i dont even know what i run, the gage doesnt work much. i'll worry about it when my shoes melt.
i can tell when it gets to about 220, the clutch doesnt disengage until the pedal is on the floor.
zj fan clutch helped a little.

So I just put the thermostat in some water and brought it to a boil. Per my steak thermostat the water was at 200 when it started to open and fully open around 210. Mind you the steak thermostat isn't really made to go the hot (unless you like charcoal for steaks). In comparison the water was just starting to get some little bubbles when it started to open and was full boil when it was completely open. Seeing as we are at or darn near at sea level that would be approx 212. Maybe I should get another TStat and do a boil test? Or are these results good enough to drop it back in?

So I just picked it up from pacific brake and alignment. They did a back pressure test on the exhaust and they said all was good. They said the cat was good and they didn't notice any exhaust leaks. So then I drove to Stans auto. He said to drop it by on Tuesday and he would check it out. That's where I'm at! I'm done trying to figure this out. I need a pro. I'm gonna have him check the compression on the motor and all that good stuff. Feels defeating but I guess I have to know my limitations and stop spending money on stuff that may or may not fix it.

Have you tried bleeding your clutch fluid? I bet it looks like mud

210-20* is about normal. So if it opens around that it should be fine. But for some reason your much above that. Aaron, can You post the CFM's of those fans and I'll do some research today. Because of the ZJ clutch my fan is pulling some serious air, but I'll use the stock CFM for a comparison.

My f-250 used to do the same thing.

Ill see what I can find. The thing is though, I don't have a problem around town. 215-226 degrees. It is at freeway speed when there should be enough ram air that the fans won't be a problem. I have already talked to two local mechanics, Stan and ???can't think of his name but the guy at pacific, and they said your fan is for slow speeds but freeway speeds you could even go without a fan. FFdynamics responded with the same thing. They said if there was a problem with their fans it would be hot around town and cool on the freeway. Ill see if I can find the cfm's though for comparison. I also just took off my lights....makes me sad....we put a hard days work in on those paul. I just want to remove anything that would restrict airflow.

I'm at stock 3.15 iirc? With 31's, I know I am pushing it but I wouldn't imagine it making that much difference would it? I open to anything at this point!:what:
