So Cal desert rats

Got the backing plates modified and fitted to the axle. Wasn't bad at all

Paul, that looks like my first 8.25 after I bought my Heep. The bozo I bought it from apparently didn't believe in Locktite.

I had EXTREMELY good support from ARB in Seattle. They ended up rebuilding my locker - new carrier, seal housing, etc. Salvaged the good parts. I was quoted $300 for the whole thing. They turned it around in a few days. Longer story than this about everything that transpired, but their service was top-notch. Made a customer for life out of me. Talk to Nils at ARB. They may be able to fix you quickly. If you want the rest of the sordid story, let me know.

At least you found all the sheared bolts. I found nine of me. The last one bounced out of a crevice as the pinion bearing was getting seated. It was way up in the oil channel for the pinion gear. That would have been real fun to have bouncing around inside.

Try a broom handle. Used that to clean out the axle tubes of all the metal shavings. When through three cans of brake cleaner before the rags came out clean.

By the way, my ring and pinion gear was fine after shearing the bolts. Filed off the rough spots. Have it as a spare, as well as the rebuilt ARB. Holes slightly enlarged, but nothing too bad. Seems the carrier took the brunt of the damage in my case. And, all the metal flying around until the last bolt sheared (in my driveway, fortunately) took out the air ling at the edge of the seal housing, hence the need to replace it.

Still have to check the ring gear, drill and ease out the snapped off bolts. We'll see.

Back from being MIA! My naxja time is when I am at work, so the wife doesn't hate my new hobbie anymore than she already does.

I had an awesome time sat night! Thanks Scott and Cyndee for having us out! It was nice meeting everyone and seeing the potential for these XJ's. Looking forward to the next one! By the way scott u said u were the old one but when u get behind your jeep u suddenly become a teenager again! Is that the secret to longevity?

AC started screaming at me, got lucky just a loose belt!

Hey what do you guys think of the tread right tires? I was kind of skeptical about buying a set of retread tires cause I don't feel like replacing my fenders anytime soon but I just read a review by 4x4 garage magazine and they rated them really well even with highway use. What do you think? Anyone have experience with them?

The tread right tires have been around a long time. They have been used in the desert by some of the jeeper folks and they never had trouble with them from what they said.I was thinking about going that way but they don't sale my size in a 15".I want 35's

He is hiding from me i guess after lieing about coming over. But he should know by now, I don't plan on him showing up when he says he is going too.So tone you can come back out of your room and play again.:roflmao:

he texted me on saturday about 4 o'clock asking if I was going to your house, then he never responded to my text back... Plus he hasn't been on naxja since then. Just wondering what happened to him.
