Snow Run Thanksgiving Weekend

Sorry guys, but the wife said I must have family over that day. I do not fell like sleeping on the coutch for a month.

Bring the family on the run. :) How many people are we talking about here Dan? I might bring my 89' and 91' depending on how many people are coming with me. I'm selling the 89' and a few of my buds are interested, so what better time than to have them wheel the thing a little too right? I will not bring it far into the trail if it gets deep, but it's just an option at this point. I don't mean to slow out progress down or limit our "fun level". I know you want to see what your full size xj can do, right Billy? You've been hard at work on that thing for awhile now. I think you love the snow right Phil, those are the only times I have seen you on the trail. :)

No can do Troy. My son is 16 months old and I do not want to take him on a trail run till he is at least three years old. One reason is that I don't want to get in a bad situation with him inside and two, until he is three, he can't stay strapped into a car seat that long. I took my wife wheeling in my CJ once and she totally freaked out and walked back to the tow rig. Guess I shouldn't have layed the CJ on its side with that big drop off threatening to roll us down the hill :laugh2:

Well it looks like I'm in, got clearance from my boss and everything, but I might need your guys help though.

I have two choices:

1. Take my wifes XJ, no tow points but at least it has fresh GY AT/S 31's

or

2. Try really hard to fix my junk on Friday, but I won't have my fancy DickCepeks

So I might need to call on my SC brothers for some help. Right now, I think Mike (fresno_jeepr) has the shop and all the tools I need. If he isn't available, the wife said I can drive up Friday and stay the night so I can play on Saturday. Or if I take option 1, but I need to have a hitch or tow hook brakets cheap?

Take the wife's ride and be careful with it. :laugh3: I think you'll be fine. I have a winch and will pull you if needed as will others. What I've seen is that no matter how "hardcore, extreme etc" your vehicle, snow will get you stuck at some point. Especially if we go really high up and get into some deep stuff. Did you get those rims you got from me mounted on those 14.5" wide tires? That would really be nice in the snow, big foot print.

Sean: I can drive behind you if you can make it out to my place in CH. My 94' Wrangler tags expired 2 yrs ago in IL and I drove it to and from the Smog Ref a few times with cops buzzing around me, I've been lucky though. I even wheeled it on Fordyce when I made the trade with a guy for his CJ. You should be fine, tell the cop the checks in the mail. I hope this doesn't stop you, I'm sure you can get a Bandit to keep the Smokeys off your tail :)

Nice group we're getting here. :)

Mike is going to hook me up with the shop time and Dan offered to join us on Friday. So we'll see, If I get my SBS on I'll be there with my junk, otherwise I'll be there with my wifes XJ.

Cool see you either way Chuck. We'll have to get a run going in your neck of the woods around Christmas/New Years. What's SBS?

steering brace ORGS used to make, got bought out by JKS

Thanks Brett. I didn't know that acronym. :) That looks like a good kit, much more work than the C-Rok where you just bolt it on, but it looks like the work is put to good use when you're done. Talking about the SBS, I don't think I'm getting that extreme xj I talked to you about too many issues.

When are you in town again? Hope to see you on the trails soon.

Back on topic: Any newbies out there want to join us? Sort of a m&g wheel thing. I see a few of you around here in the Sac area, come on out.

OK, 9am at costco it is.

Troy, I'm not a big Mcdonalds fan so we'll probaly grab jack-n-the-box or carls jr to eat on the run. I'm going to be quite disappointed if we don't hit snow, but not to the point that I'm going to want to go to PC and play in the mud!

Chuck, you're wifes rig doesn't even have a hitch? That's not cool, but if that's all you got, we'll make it work.

Sean, I'll follow you if ya want, since you already know where I live.

Everyone else - sorry you can't make it.

Wow way to coordinate bro. I'm not a big fan of MC'd myself. Carl's is good. How high up in elevation does the trail go up to? Is it a paved road that is just unmaintained at some point? Well, I thought PC was an option if we hit no snow and wanted to mess around. Did ranger Stu give you a lecture about your lack of tire flares last time you were there?

Stoney are you going to be able to make it? I haven't seen you around lately.

I don't know the elevation, we'll just keep going up until we hit snow. There are several trails to choose from up there. Ranger Stu swore he'd make me sorry if I showed up there w/o flares again. Besides - I'm not in the mood for mud.

Alright, I'd like to hook up with you when you're here and show my IL family what Cali snow wheeling is all about. Also my bro doesn't have much faith in the XJ, so we'll have to teach him. :)

I have "obtained" a Costco card so we can use the pumps, and when I called they said that the pumps were open, even when the warehouse is not.

Has anyone got air that I can use, to air back up after?

I just need to mount up my fender flares, and my front plate, and move my rear plate so it's not "obstructed by the spare tire." Thank you, Davis Police.

I've got a hitch but no frame rail inserts you can have. Just gotta find some way of getting it.

Good news for the snow run guys, the news said a good storm will be hitting Friday through Saturday. :laugh3:

That's great news. We need some traction reducing/challenging stuff for us to have some fun. Then we don't have to climb up as high in elevation. See all you guys Sat morning. I have 3 people coming with me in my xj. I'll have to get my back seat back in. :)
