Snow Run Thanksgiving Weekend

Sounds good, I was trying to get something going to that weekend. When/where were you planning on meeting? I've never seen your rig in action yet Billy.

Cool, it looks like this is getting off the ground. Saturday is best for me to leave Sunday to recoup. :) Where do you guys want to meet, maybe Sam's to get some gas off of Greenback in CH?

Billy,

Not farmiliar with these trails.... Gimme the rundown:

-Where exactly are they?
-What elevation (snow and how much??)
-What are the minimum rig requirements this time of year for this trail?

Thanks,
jm

Looks like Mormon Immigrant starts right around Pollock Pines, off 50, then runs down to 88. Hopefully there's plenty of snow, that's kinda the point. :D

Requirements:

35's or bigger
at least one locker
no D35s or 8.25s
no leafsprung frontend Jeeps
matching tread full size spare
spares and tools
straps and a hi-lift or a winch

OR

It's snow. Have tow points, decent tires, and a good attitude.

or somewhere in between.

What's up with the 35's or bigger, no leaf spring front end jeeps, matching tread full size spare, etc etc??? That's a little harsh don't you think? This is just a snow run and I know they can be demanding, but we all were under 35's when we started and as long as you have a good attitude and some attachment points f/r then what's the problem getting a newbie or mildly built or stock xj/mj to run with us? I might be getting a rig very soon with a front leaf sprung waggy dana 44 like Brett has. What's wrong with leafs.....I hope this was a joke of some sort. I have a winch so I can pull you guys out who aren't that hardcore yet (under 35's with 1 to no lockers etc). :)

Newbies welcome, you have to start somewhere. I know you started this thread Billy and I don't mean to take over here, just trying to get a good group out and not be so exclusive with too many rules and regulations.
Where are we meeting/when?

It was a joke indeed.

Weren't you on the run last year before Thanksgiving, when I was driving the MJ with 235s, open diffs, and no lift?

Since we're going to be out 50, I'd rather not meet in CH and cut down Sunrise. I can obtain a Costco card to get gas at Costco, and there's one right off 50, at the edge of Folsom, right round where the highway starts to climb over the hills. Bidwell Rd. I think. How's that sound for a place? Time, I'm open.

yeah it better be a joke you punk :laugh3: I didn't see your fancy coil sprung XJ going up soup-bowl when we were on the Con... or walking up the steps coming out of the bowl... and I don't remember you ever giving me a strap... and I don't remember ever having to pull apart my front axle... or dislodge my springs from my bumpstop... or losing my front driveline.......

:flipoff2: :laugh3:

(you still got those tail-lights for me?)

:flipoff2: :laugh2: :laugh2:

 You mean that's NOT the way to run the Rubicon? And just in case you forgot, we pulled my front axle apart TWICE. Still works now!

I'll bring the taillights to Davis soon so I don't forget them again.

Hmmm. This is saturday? I might be able to talk the wife into it. I got lockers and need to use em :D

Thanks guys... it's tempting but I am going to have to pass. Someone left a sawzall lyin around and now my rear quarter panels are no longer in one peice... I was hopin to get it wrapped up last saturday but ran outa metal and time.

[thinking... tapping my keyboard... trying to convince myself that i can make it work]

gosh, you guys are killin me here... I really wanna go but I really need to wrap up some projects I started...

Quarter Panels are over-rated. :D

Wife veto'ed the snow run this time around. Maybe next time. Have fun.

You guys suck, we need more people! That costco will be fine (although I've never been there)... can anybody confirm the exit? What time should we make it? 9 am?
Billy

9 sounds good. It's in Folsom/Eldorado Hills off of 50 when you just start climbing the hill on the left going East. Can you gas us up Phil? :laugh3:
I'll return the favor if we go down I-80 towards Malokoff Diggins/Bowman Lake.

I just got back from looking at the 87' full width xj in Hayward. It looked pretty cool, but had some major damage to the driver side rear window area, like it rolled a bit. The roof there too was wrinkled, so that kind of was a little too much for me. There were some decent size 1-2" cracks in the frame too. Well anyways, see you guys Saturday morning at 9. Don't eat too much turkey and get too tired o.k. :laugh3:

Hopefully there is a good amount of snow on immigrant otherwise you guys want to go to PC for a bit for some mud wheeling? I can bring a hose to get the mud off our rigs when we're done. I hope Ranger Stu doesn't give us a ticket for not having mud flaps/flares. Oh well, he'll have to catch us 1st right. :)

I'll be home (Auburn/Grass Valley area) from December 19 through January 18, bring on the snow. Malokoff Diggens is real close to my neck of the woods, also Greenhorn/Red Dog.

I'd even be interested in trying to get in and out to the first crossing at Fordyce, but I have no idea how doable that is, anyone ever heard of it done with significant snow coverage?

enjoy guys

Do you guys want to get a quick bite at MC'D after we meet at 9 or before? MC'd/Carl Jr's I think, and jack-in-box is along hwy 50 by the Costco? Cost Co has cheap eats too. I know we need to get going and not be eating and talking burning up the day light hrs, but we have to eat right?

I have 1-4 people coming with me in my 91' and maybe my 89' xj as well. Maybe also a 93' ZJ on 33's with a 4.5" re lift.

Anyone else want to join in? This is a newbie friendly run. Come out of the wood work and hook up with your XJ bros.

Maybe we can do Prairie City too if we have time or don't see enough snow to keep us busy. I wonder if they got the boulders that I heard were on the way??? I'll bring my hose just in case. :laugh3:
