clogged CAT will definately cause a loss of power, and if its been running rich.....
As posted earlier, indeed a plugged cat will cause similar performance issues, but it'll be consistent. Mine will occasionally have moments of decent performance, but pretty rare. I've even noted just a hint of a surge every once in a while.

This is not always the case. The broken pieces of cat can shift around causing variations as you've described. A new direct replacement Magnaflow cat can be had for $80. If I still had my Jeep I'd swap you for a few days just to check it out. Maybe one of these other slackers will??
