Slickrock... as of 5/16

Hey guys...

Well I just attempted slickrock today. A lot more snow than I expected, but still was fun. We started on the south side as we got word from others that the north side had a big CAT in the way and about 5 feet of snow.

Ran into a few stuck people in the snow and towed them out, then hit the trail. Went down the stairs fine, but that river right there was too high for me to cross. Saw about 8 jeeps go threw it, and 4 stalled... Probably would have been above my hood or really close...

Well most of the snow we ran into was on the road getting there. The creek was too high for me to cross, and most of the snow was on the other side, thus not too much snow on the trail to that point. Everyone we talked to said if you cross the creek you will run into a good amount of snow, and the lake alpine side is uncrossable... That's just what I heard though. Some of my family tried going to Alpine, and they couldn't make it as there was too much snow.

Plus my camera guy wasn't all that great to say the least...

We also tried to go into Slickrock on the Hwy 4 side but didn't even get onto the trail. Snow looked to be about 4 feet or more in some places that we could see. There was a CAT blocking the entrance to the trail.

We went swimming in the Stanislaus river down by Arnold and the temp was 51 degrees. Felt damn good with temps near 90.

Corral Hollow also had deep snow at both sides of the trail: the 7N09 end had snow on the gravel road leading to the trailhead. Guys with lockers and 33's had no problem in 3 feet of snow, but the stock guys couldn't make it. The other end (near Bear Valley) looked to have maybe 3-4 feet of snow from the start of the trail.

Lots of blurry ones though, but I am thinking about getting that one printed. Still waiting for the pics from my dads SLR.
