Sierra Fest dates?

Let's keep this simple.
Due to different trail requirements, the Rubicon Run should be a 'stand alone' run.
Many Naxja members can tackle and enjoy Deer Valley and Slickrock, making these Trails a good candidate for a Sierra Fest.
Trying to agree on a Time and Date is a different story, although it was already brought up that this is scheduled in the same time frame as last year, that is something that the group can repeat and look forward to.

Again, I'll say that if the Sierrafest is on the rubicon, it's cool to add a Deer Valley run, but the July run to deer valley should be left alone.

Sierrafest should be on a trail/trails that people with smaller rigs can come along as well. IMO the rubicon should be a separate trip, for the more built rigs.

+1 I agree, I will be doing both but for those who can't run both it would work a lot better...

I couldn't agree more!! This was what i tried saying in another thread but i guess it never came out right. We should keep Sierrafest the same as last year. Its 5 days long and just about anybody can run it, plus it is a very flexible schedule. I understand that people cant take a lot of time off therefore they can pick either Sierrafest or the Con. Plus us XJers with the less capable rigs still want to be able to wheel at Sierrafest and participate in the raffles.

i agree with you guys about keeping seirra fest like it is. its cool that people can come and go.

and i like the idea of adding the Rubicon to the mix.

maybe you can just make the rubicon run something to add on for those who want to run it...

or just make it a run to buck and back?

here is a question , if you run it from loon to tahoe, where you planning on running into buck, hanging out a day or two and then on the last day running out to tahoe and then down 89 to deer valley all in one day?

or where you planning on running into buck, hanging out for a few , then hitting the springs for a night, then wheeling out to tahoe and then to DV?

or we could party in south lake for a night and shower , refuel and get food and beer, gamble all night, then drive down to DV all rested the next morning?

that sounds even more fun....

day 1
run into buck
day 2
hang out and play around, chill at little sluice
day 3
head out to springs
day 4
drive to tahoe and hang out in tahoe for a night
day 5
hit DV and run it from 88?

Since I haven't been to Deer Valley, would it be closer if we headed out from the Loon Lake side? With 2 down days at the lake we could run to the top of Cadillac and head back to camp one day, and then leave out the Loon Lake side.

Like I said, this is still in the planning stage.

What would make it quicker is to have camp set up at the North end of the DV trail which is Blue Lakes. Nice campgrounds, allthough there is a fee. Either way its a long drive IMO...

My vote is separate the two. I agree that DV is the better place for the official SierraFest Event.

I vote for SF at the Galleria Mall. We can all shop for new panties and pretty hats while we are there. After that, maybe a drive over to Baskin Robbins for some ice cream.

Hey Jim - long time no see :wave1:

I dont understand why people dont like the combination of the two - August 11-14 at DV is Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday at DV - I'd expect that most folks will be able to take a few days off work and make it to this portion of the event - hence why the dinner, raffle, crazy campfire stories, etc will be focused there.

If folks can make the Rubicon portion of the trip as well - Awesome - if they cant - that's a bummer, but still show up for DV / Slickrock - thats where the 'main event' is.

Also - if you can take the time off work, but dont think your rig is capable - try and find a seat to come along for the trip. I usually dont have a passenger, and know a bunch of other folks who usually dont either - so join in anyway - see if its something you want to be able to do.

I'm confident that if you get a bunch of good sierra chapter people together on any trail - its going to be a good time for all involved - and a great time burning some wood and throwing back a few adult beverages.

The reason we wanted the Rubicon to be a part of SierraFest 2011 is to try to get people from other chapters to come out. I don't think many people will drive up from LA, down from Oregon and Washington, or drive a long way West to just run Deer Valley and Slick Rock trails for a weekend. To have three or four days on the world famous Rubicon with very experienced guides could make people drive a long way. (We hope!)

But we do want everyone to feel welcome, so to have the BBQ dinner at Deer Valley was the compromise.

So we hope that we will get to show some people from other chapters the Rubicon for the first time, and hope they stay for the weekend event at Deer Valley.

That is a good point and for the people like me that will only be able to make it for the weekend we get a great group camp area for the BBQ and get to run Deer Valley and Slick Rock, two great trails.

If you don't want to miss the BBQ and raffle but can only make one then post up and organize your own run on the con. That's what I did and who knows maybe one of these days someone will actually go wheeling with me...

Looks like the new dates and event plan is moving forward.

Depending on how many people show up to the Rubicon, we can adjust the schedule to spend a night in South Lake Tahoe like BlondeJon suggested.

The Rubicon section of the run will be for NAXJA members only, you must have a red letter name.

The Deer Valley portion will be open to everyone who wants to show up.

That sounds like a great plan and another great reason to buy a membership or in my case renew.

Thanks for putting this on Bryan.

Plus if we/I renew in March, it gets us one step closer to winning "Best Chapter"

Hey Bryan, this is an excellent idea to keep the membership up.... and it is a good time to get mine. I definitely want to join the team and do the con this year.
