Seth's Jeep

dbSwede is gonna drop of enough gear oil to do both axles this afternoon. Right on Dana!!

Anyone able to grab one of the following? (Or hit up your favorite parts house for a donation.)
Brakes (D30 front & 8.25" rear)
Fresh Anti-Freeze
Power Steering Fluid
Brake Fluid
Tranny fluid
Tranny Filter

I'll have this list - if the stuff I have lying around for the MJ won't work, I'll pick up stuff that will - what year is Seth's rig (D30 pads vary...)?

Wow! You 'Springs guys are REALLY stepping up this is awesome!

Frank, I got your phone message - figured I'd answer it here as this may come up again....

When soliciting businesses for donated parts for Seth's rig, be sure their aware that the Colorado Chapter does not have a tax exempt number. We're a not-for-profit club, but are not registered that way with the Gov't. We're operating solely on the voluntary nature of our BOD and organization.

I'll be more than happy to provide any business/vendor with a typed letter on NAXJA letterhead recognizing their contribution should they need that to document their donation. Just let me know.

Thanks all for your efforts!

Hey, doesn't Seth's jeep have a disco front?

If it has a problem with the vac. unit and we want to discard that, I have an extra inner diff seal to put in the diff so that a solid right shaft can be used.

Lemme know.

I cant make it to wrench....I have had my 12 yr old reading this to get a feel for seth and his families sacrifice....we will try to be there for the run.

Lot's of progress today, but before we get to that...

Major Thanks to Led for the use of his hanger, XJGrin for the additional fluids, tranny filter kit, and brake shoes/pads for all four corners, and to Fred for the cooler full of cold drinks!

Todays players were XJMatt (Matt) and RokKen (Ken) all the way from Denver and Westminister respectively.

Local folks XJGrin (Chris), Fred, GreenJeepXJ (Josh), led, Planefixer (Jeff), and my son Daniel.

On to the pics!
Getting started...

Chris and Matt getting the interior out. The carpet was completely trashed from oil, water and other stuff.

Here's a couple shots of the parts we pulled out of the interior, including the front and rear seats.

Some dork peeping through the wallowed out hole in the trac-bar.

Although you can't really see it in this pic, there was water in the diff. About 2-3 cups worth came out before any oil came out.

No one seemed to know where the dipstick was....

Daniel took care of draining the transmission and getting the filters swaped.

Led taking care of the front leaf spring mount.

Hood up, doors open, stuff everywhere.....Good Times!

Old exhaust out and new-ish exhaust ready to go in.

So here;s what we got done today;

Oil and filter change
Tranny fluid and filter change
New plugs, wires, cap and rotor
Drained diff fluid
Swapped the power steering pump out and refilled with new fluid
Replaced rear output seal on the transfercase
Removed seats, console, carpet
Cleaned out the interior, sprayed with rust neutralizer, and rattle-canned the floor pan as needed
Replaced battery with a used donor battery
Repaired driverside forward leaf spring mount
Removed trac-bar
Removed e-brake lever

The gears in the front axle looked to be in pretty good condition, but the rear axle is a whole other ballgame. After Daniel got the rear diff cover off he found a broken spider gear tooth on the diff cover magnet. Closer inspection showed that the pinion had been installed way to shallow and every tooth on the ring gear had a razor sharp edge. Can you say "Stress Riser"? That's why Deb posted a thread asking for a new rear axle, or even apair of axles.

Tomorrow's list
Balljoints
Brakes
Rear axle swap
Replace broken leaf spring centering pin
Re-install rear drive shaft
Re-tap or replace front axle yoke (Stripped holes for u-joint strap bolts)
Re-install seats
Troubleshoot and repair brake lights
Drain radiator and refill with new coolant
Remove broken e-brake cables
Clean air filter
Install new trac-bar
Install front sway bar ( We need the clamps if anyone has a spare set.)
And a few other minor odds and ends

A great day spent with great people for a great cause! Thanks to all that helped out and those that showed up to offer moral support.

Some good pics there Frank! It was great meeting all you guys today and I'm happy to have been a part of the days work on Seth's rig. It was a good days work but there's still more to get done. Good luck tomorrow and if my schedule changes I'll give you a call.

Again good meeting you all.

You guys made some SERIOUS progress! That list of stuff really shows how desperately his rig needed attention. I think we'll all feel better knowing all that work has been done before Anna and Nate even attempt to 'wheel it.

Nice job guys.... I really wanted to be there. I feel bad as to the reason I wasn't there - kinda selfish in a way, but it was a must-do oportunity we couldn't pass on.

I'm torn about trying to come up tomorrow, but the Heep needs so much work just for me to make the memorial run, I really need to get going on it.

Again, bravo boys!
