I think that it will be easier to tell how the cage held up after the roof is cut off.

Did you get the roof cut off yet?:repair:

Houston we have touch down! Sleigh II has landed successfully in Santa's garage. Work will begin immediately to prepare for lift-off with the Moab Fall Fling being the deadline to shoot for, Sleigh II will undergo intense testing at Moab to work out any bugs.

1994 Jeep Cherokee SE 4x4 automatic - $2700 (We got the price down to $2200.)

This is a 1994 Jeep Cherokee with an inline six cylinder engine. It is a 4x4 and has an automatic transmission. It has 174,000 miles on it, a recent brake and lube job. I put bigger tires on it about a year ago, which makes it look more rugged. The paint is good and the interior is clean, except for a few spots in the back.

That's awesome. So the build begins...........

Oh hey, what happened to the first thread of this mishap, it was called something like "all i got for Christmas was this cage"..... I can't find it anywhere!

It had technical difficulties.

To Do on Sleigh I:
  1. Strip running gear and goodies.
  2. Extract 'cage.
  3. Make templates of wheel well cutouts.
  4. Scrap old body.
To do on Sleigh II:
  1. Strip interior (its tan, ugh)
  2. Possibly strip dash and build custom.
  3. Cut out wheelwells (purchase spot welder?)
  4. Skin inside door panels with sheetmetal.
  5. Design new 'cage
  6. Incorporate new suspension seat mounts in cage.
  7. Install seats and harnesses.
  8. Reinforce steering box mount and front frame.
  9. Mock up cage and add additions (front hoop, halo, etc).
  10. Have 'cage welded in.
  11. Paint cage
  12. Herculine bottom half of body white?
  13. Cut out and install escape hatch/sunroof.
  14. Powdercoat and install lebaron hood vents (thanks lamula).
  15. Install Acrylic rear windows, limo tint the rest.
  16. Replace Sleigh I's transfercase with Sleigh II's 4:1 'case.
  17. Strip axles and suspension off.
  18. Sell transfer case, axles, suspension, bumpers, etc.
  19. Install and reinforce suspension mounting points.
  20. Install Sleigh II's axles and suspension.
  21. Design new shock setup (coilovers?hydrobumps?resevoirs?)
  22. Mount PSC pump and ram.
  23. Install tranny cooler.
  24. Prep for Maob.
  25. Test.
Sound good?

#6 is Very difficult. You might like my method or at least concider it an option.

I used a 20" wide piece of 3/16 plate and ran that from the front floor board area about even with the Ebrake handle back to the rear seat area body reinforcment that goes side to side, and it is as close to the door frame floor area as poss. It is notched in a few areas and was a PITA to get to mold to the contures, but found that the floor board also molds to the flat plate well. Then I welded it to the floor that entire length, and bolted it to the floor in the center area in 3 spots (1/2" bolts) just at the unibody rail where it turns flat, as well as did a 4x4" angle at the unibody rail out to the rocker area and sandwiched the floor with 3 more 1/2" bolts thru that angle and through the plate inside the cab. Basically I have a 3/16" floor that it tied to the unibody rail conpletely.

Then just make mounts that tie directly to that 3/16" plate. Other wise your going to have hell trying to get tube to span side to side and tie the seats to the cage. Not only will it raise the seats, bad for int cage headroom, but you also have a PITA fitment of tube between the center hump and the seat sides in the center section. And the drivers side hump in any case will get pounded down significantly.

I dont know if any of these pictures show it well. But I will attach some in case you can see what I am talking about. Then you can also just tie the cage in to the floor plating. in the B pillar area.

Just thought I would share. I know it was hell tring to get the seats in that I have and there was no way to rub tube side to side, without lifting the seats at least a few inches, and that was not an option for me.

then on the frame, but of course you would want to weld it once its bolted together :looney:

You don't have to do anything to it. He installed bigger tires on it which makes it look more rugged.........:dunno:
