Would any of the passes around Silverton be open and doable the first week of Oct? I know it "could" snow but lets just say on a normal year. Would this be something that could be done?
I would say yes, maybe not all of them though. Last year we started getting snow in the high mountains in the middle of September. Some were open while some were closed. Keep an eye on the FS site, http://www.fs.fed.us/r2/sanjuan/conditions/roads/passes.shtml if they havent updated just give them a call. What passes were you thinking about running? It will be very nice up there at that time for fall colors.
I hunt southern Colorado in September and November and for the last few years, I have not seen any significant snowfall until after the first week of November. But remember, this is Colorado and it could snow anytime. I have run into blizzards in July.
