I've a 4.0 out of my old Jeep that I want to rebuild in my spare (ha!) time. Anyone in San Diego North County that is doing one or has done one? I need someone who has local knowledge such as where the best places to get the block tanked, checked, bored are and so on. I think I want a straight rebuild, not a stroker or any extreme mod. Anyone?

Ok... for the record that would be

Casey's Auto Machine
120 N Pacific St Ste G2
San Marcos, CA 92069-1265
(760) 591-3450

Called these guys and spoke with Casey. Sounds like a knowledgable person. I'll have a further chat with him in a couple of weeks.

Anybody else used Casey with good/bad results?

Thanks!

AutoPower Machine & Electrical, in Oceanside ask 4 Keith. He checked out some heads for me so I could sell them, I was impressed. If youre familiar w/ Smokeys machine, well, Smokey recommended this guy to me, prob. a bit less expensive than him. 602 South Tremont, thats one block west of Coast Hwy at Minnesota. Then theres always Wilsons Machine, and a place in Solana Beach where I got a fllywheel turned, but those places seem a lil pricey.

you obviously have been to Wilsons in a while... he closed shop and moved to Hawaii. left several people and vendors high and dry with money due. They did good machine work too...
for the price, I would buy a shortblock from Tapco...
