Saddle Up - Input and Design Thread

We ran path with Jahmaal yesterday at the cross roads near airplane hill. He was saying he hopes by summer to have more trails opened up for us down here. we chit chatted for a few minutes gave us another map then went on to snap a drivers inner and outer axle shafts on airplane hill. Cant wait for more trails down there and im willing to lend a hand as well. We adopted a trail with nwquadriders, Island Trail. Worked side by side with Jahmaal a few times

Status on this?

I want to wheel, but if we can kill two birds with one stone, that works too.
Plan remains, we'll go up and plan on getting some stuff done on the 3rd....
What all that entails, i'm not 100% sure yet, that will get ironed out this week....
Regardless, I DO plan on doing some light wheeling afterwards... If there ends up being little to no work, then I guess we wheel more. :eyes:

Jahmaal is a great guy to work with, and he's definitely got big plans for TSF in our favor.

I know its short notice, but Jahmaal is asking what the chances are of us getting a machine up there this weekend?
Anyone got a line on one? I know there had been one or two that said they had access to one.... I got a little dough on the fuel if it can happen.

What kind of machine, to do what kind of work?

A mini-excavator...or basically anything that can get up into/on the trail w/o damaging it or the surroundings.... the MAJOR work that needs to be done is primarily stump removal.

Ok, JUST got word back from Jahmaal:

There really isn’t much that can be done up on Saddle Up without machinery. Normally I would use ours but I have a prior commitment with an event sponsor. There is always trail assessment, illegal trail blockage (Hogs Back/C-line rd.), brushing, and on trail trash clean up. Solve day clean up was only roads. We have two weeks of miscellaneous projects then we will start working on opening Saddle Up. Please report trails issues or missing signage. I have solve bags that I can bring up for you guys.

So that's where we're at....
There isn't going to be much we can do right now, other than trail clean up.
I will be going up there regardless for that, but I wouldn't expect many of you to bother with that unless you want to...

So in three weeks from now, the Mini will be available, and I think we should focus on putting together as much man power as we can for that when ODF will be changing their focus to getting Saddle Up open to Class II. That is unless we can get one up there for this weekend, in which case that changes everything.

have we checked on renting something for a weekend? id be willing to bet there is still enough chapter funds available to pull it off. id pitch on it as well. Maby we can start a separate "equipment funds" fund raiser?

either way it seems like the hold up is equipment. and odf has been bearing the load as far as that goes. I know we would make massive headway if we get the right stuff up there.

Bronze.

Agreed..... And I know it's short notice, so I'm not holding out much hope for getting something lined up this weekend. So the goal for now will be to do a good clean up, and have some fun wheeling... I'll be sure to do a good inspection of the trail and assess what will need to be done for the next work party in a few weeks... I WOULD like to have something lined up as far as an excavator goes... even if ODF has theirs up there ...two working at once would make a HUGE difference.

Goin up Saturday. I'll stage up at Rogers, hopefully can get Jahmaal to meet me there to drop off some of those SOLV bags, if not, I'll have some trash bags with me....
and I'm gonna plan on leaving for Saddle up about 9 or a little after.

I want to get an early start on things as Its been a little while since I've been up there, only a couple times since Thanksgiving, and alot of the landscape has changed up there, AND my memory sucks, so I wanna give myself some time to get lost in case I cant remember the way up to the trail.

its all good.... looks like i'm goin solo.

We re-closed it off to jeeps
