And stock gears, for now.
As for trails, I do as much as my rig can handle, and I love it.
I enjoy remarks based on my tire size.
I would think that you, of all people, would know how downright senseless that sounds.
To each his own.

Now there are two of them

Run whatever gears you want, if AZ whats his name wants to run 3.55s and 35s and tell his experience with it, let him do it, its his experience, granted, he is wrong (:D) but who cares? Maybe he will get 4.56s and say "holy sh!t, those guys were right" and, maybe he wont.

And BGcntry, get off Rich (XJguy), youre getting annoying!

Heres my opinion, run with it for a while, see if you like it (you wont) and then regear, at least 4.56s, for the love of god :D

Oh and ps, im gonna run 38"s on 3.07s

Can nobody read what I am ACTUALLY SAYING if you have the money do gears but that WAS NOT WHAT HE WAS ASKING he asked if anyone ran this combo and I do. When I bought the tires I was going to do gears but it had to go to other unforseen things. As for the challenge ANYONE IS WELCOME TO TRY TO GO WHERE I CANT IN A CHEROKEE IT WONT HAPPEN WITH 35 INCH TIRES

I run 35's, and have for about 8 months now. No problems (yet) I have lost the use of 4th gear (it still works but I can't use it) but it turns about 2500 rpm's at 70 mph in 3rd. I have taken it off road several times and it has done very well. there have been a fiew times when lower gears would have made things easier, but I was still able to make it through.

I remember that day,:D

It's a little hard thru the cocky attitude.

When you grow up you'll find your sh!t does stink just like everyones elses.

This time you left off the *ease* part or is that what you edited?

We'll all be at the Hammers the Nov. 22 and 23. Come on out and wheel and learn something.

This is a real invite, there will be lots of xjs there.

mark

Not really trying to be a D i c k hear just trying to get you to wake up and realize what you are being/saying. We've all been there done that, then we learned there might be a better way.

Well...

Thats the way I meant to say it.
Sorry for the harshness, but what do I know?
I have 31" tires, so thusly you can disregard my opinion.

Tell ya what, come out to the Hammers with us in 2 weeks. We'll probably have 10 or so XJ's out there. If you have an easier time than any one of us, I'll owe you a coke. There's a reason that we don't allow guys to wheel the Hammers with us unless they're properly geared.

man, i just love it when an outspoken greenhorn gets an invitation to put his money where his mouth is.....

doesn't ever seem to come to that though....

strange.

Paul, I assume you guys will be willing to make an exception in this case, won't you?

afterall, he never has issues with his gearing

Of course we would, can't you feel the love? Seriously, there are 2 very short Hammers that make for good 'testers' before hitting the more serious trails. I would not extend the invitation to any of the tougher trails though, as it would no longer be a fun challenge at that point, it would just be work.

Hey bg, I wasn't really coping on your tire size, just your mannerism.....trying to make a point. :)

We all have attitude sometimes.....and in that department I have no room to talk. :D :D

Now that I've harassed azjxman a little, I will say that he did answer the original question......who is running this tire size and what is your experience.

I've always said that a gear change is the single best modification that I've done to my Jeep, and many others have said the same.

I run 35s with 3.55s and yeah it does suck on the highway. And I get worse gas mileage than anyone I know. But it does just as good as anyone with lower gears does on the trail. So for everone who says it will be crappy on the trail I say BLAH BLAH BLAH!! Dont talk about what you havent seen. Also it is an auto and I have a gigantic tranny cooler.

Really Richard? Maybe the first half then he knew he was going to hear sh!t as he was writing it the second half.

I refer back to my last post.

:D

Richard, can you cut me some slack, too? :)

....besides, I run 33's :D :D

edit: on that note; AZXJman, didn't mean to ride you TOO hard. It's just my way of making a point and it may have come across as being a little harsh. But I STILL suggest you listen to the voice of accumulative experience. Will somebody please hand me the tissues? :bawl:

Is AZXJMAN actually Brian Harmon?

I can't recall, but Brian did the Hammers with us on BOTW 1.

Remember, he was the guy with hair growing out of his Big O XT's?

Naw, Brian doesn't post incognito...besides, he's xjnation.

Mark, I'm not taking back anything I said previously........just trying to be nice. I think we've made our point very clear. :) :)

As there are differing degrees of what "works", there are also differing degrees of "running" a trail. Sledge.....coming out the sand hill in the dark after all day, and then running the entire trail in two hours....are good examples. I've done both.

I'm running that combination and IT DOES NOT WORK . Sure, I've driven the Rubicon, Fordyce, Barrett Lake and Swamp Lake (plus many more), but it would have been a lot easier and a whole lot more enjoyable with 4:88's and a TAD.
Run it for a while but get it geared and locked ASAP.

Hmmmm.....that sounds familiar......and brings back fond memories. :D
