Run to Pismo dunes

So a couple of n00b questions about the Pismo run.

Is it a family friendly atmosphere, i.e. are wives and kids OK to bring along?
What are the sites and facilities (restrooms) like (nevermind if it's a no to the above, I'll find someplace)?
What would I need to have in/on my rig?

Well from my past experiences @ Pismo (not related to the club):
It's more of a diverse environment, since there is drinking there. That doesn't mean that there are not a lot of families there though. A lot of families go out there with their quads / motorcycles / sand buggies are there. At night there are sometimes fireworks etc. So I'd say yeah you can def. bring along family with you without any worries.

They have restrooms there, but other than that it's pretty open. The restrooms are pretty far from each other, so I ended up taking my jeep to the restroom every time I needed to go. I brought my gf along though, and she never complained much about the facilities... (Maybe she's just gotten used to it?)

As far as the Rig, I'd say you really don't need anything but good tires. I got 31x10.50's and I just aired them down to 15psi or so and I never got stuck, but I never really pushed it much as this is my daily driver, although my other vehicles could def. be it, I'd rather not. Other than that a good air pump works wonders when you are ready to head back to society, but I'll bring my pump so I can help fill up, but if anyone has air lockers + on board air it'll make it go a lot easier (if my I talk my dad into coming I'm sure he'll let people get in on their air through that method too). But in all honestly, as long as you have 4wd you should be pretty good.

Most definitaly family atmosphere. NAXJA has always prided itself with the people and their respect towards others (for the most part)!

They do have public restrooms on the beach, but I have never used them. There is something around close most of the time.
Your rig should have a driver with a good attitude! Stock jeeps will scoot all over! Tow strap maybe, a spare tire JUST IN CASE, and unless you have mechanical problems now... whatever stuff you may need. IE fluids, parts, etc.

I'll be there with my wife and 2 1/2 year old daughter. I think the kids will have a great time in the sand. We'll be camping out on the beach in our tent trailer so if any other small kids are there the could always move inside to play if need be (Its got a latching door so they wont be able to escape! :D).

NAXJA is a very family friendly group of people.

I'm down, actually we're down. Just gotta get everything back together and some new tires.

Is there going to be a caravan from the Bay Area down there?

Yeah, definitely a family atmosphere. My daughter and grandkids are going to be there. I'll be getting there early on Fri, so I'll put out some flags so folks can see where we are. Don't know yet what color flags, but I'll post it up before we go.

Everyone please remember that you need a flag attached to your vehicle to run in the dunes. You can get one at any motorcycle shop that sells ATV's, and I think they also sell them in Oceano. For night runs, it's good to rig up a light on the end of it. An easy way to rig a light is to use one of those light sticks and tie it to the end of the flag.

im in

custom steering with heims (courtesy poison spyder). shipping

haha good times...

I marked it down on my calender, sounds like this run is going to be a blast

I'm gonna try to make this with the family. I gotta try to get a couple days off of work.

I'm in the middle of trying to install my lift, so lets hope I can get it done in the next 2 weeks so I can test it all out before the trip.:wierd:

Count me in. We managed to get reservations at Pismo Coast RV Park. Jeep is almost ready and I manage to find a flag at the local motorcycle shop.

We will be heading out Friday from the Bay Area around noon. See everyone down there.

Mary

mine ran great as stock. i aired down to 12f and 10 r and it was awesome.

Whoo Hooo! I got the days off. party1:

Now all I gotta do is get my Jeep put together. Wish me luck! This will be our first "official" Jeep run.

Do you have to have a flag to get on the beach? If so where do you get one? I imagine the quad dealers?

Rick

no you do not need a flag on your vehicle just reccomnded from the quads and motorcycles so they dont jump a dune and into your rig

So a stocker is good for this trip?

How long are people staying that are doing the Sierra Fest too? So many things to do before then....
I realized just now that I thought the Sierra Fest was in June, not august.I was wondering why there were two schedualed runs less then 2 days apart.
Derrrr.....:banghead:

Is anybody else getting excited :D

We'll be there in the Dodge, towing the Jeep and a couple dirtbikes.

Hopefully I'll find room for my tremendous amount of wood.

anyone make reservations recently? how much room available?

897 spots left as of right now. Getting hot down here, so I expect some of them to go quickly. I will check back every few days and let you know if you're going to need them.

872 spots available as of today 5/14
