Rubicon trip for 2010????

I think whenever we start, whenever we finish, and whatever detours we make or other trails we run, I need to find a way to compress the month between now & then into 2 days so we can just LEAVE!!!!

i wish i had a two rig. but it seems that the most logical thing to do is to drive up. should be a good time though. :)

Avery, you coming?

Tempting. I don't beleive so as I think I have guests coming in that weekend (waiting for confirmation).

If you want to tow, the best thing to do is park the tow rig at Ice House Resort. They charge a small fee per day for parking, and it's about a 20 min drive from Hwy 50. We usually camp at Ice House and leave some tow rigs there, plus they have a store with ice so you can top off your ice chests before leaving in the morning, even have breakfast at the cafe if you want to. I think it's about 30 minutes from there to Loon Lake and the trailhead. They also have gas so you can top off the tanks if needed. They've let us all squeeze into one or two camp sites before, and they have a group site that we've used for a big NAXJA trip.

The closest trail to the 'Con, if some of you wanted to do another trail, is Barrett Lake, but you're going too early in the season and won't be open by then. It's a great trail and a good one to do along with the Rubicon. Fordyce is also a great trail, but more difficult, and the water crossings will most likely be pretty high in June especially with all the snow this year. The Rubicon will likely be pretty wet when you're going, and the mosquitoes will be out big time.

I've heard horror stories of the mosquito swarms along the Rubicon. I will have serious chemicals to win that battle. I really don't want to be a misquito pin cushion while I'm trying to have a good time.

Group buy....? :D

A few years ago we did the Rubicon about the 20th or so of June and the mosquitos were not that bad. Of course that varies from year to year but we were ok at that time.

The skeeters can be bad. In '06, Kyung got bit pretty bad on his back. And he was wearing three shirts! Last year, Rollins passed out battery-powered zappers that looked like tennis rackets. We had a great time zapping the little suckers.

I heard that the trail just got some fresh snow. That may delay the mosquito season for a while.

:banghead:Even once it's "June yet", it won't help... it'll still be weeks away!! :eye::nosmile::(:tear::bawl::rattle::tears::bawl:

Damn, I wanna go badly but I is po' :rattle::bawl:

I know how it is. I was supposed to be going on a Rubicon trip in June also. But I had to come to the realization that it just isn't in the cards at this particular time.

I'll be living vicariously through those who are going. Have a great time and take a lot of pictures.

My goal is to do some work on the Jeep, save some money, and make it to the Moab Fall Fling in October.

I is po as a mofo myself... just not going to miss this trip!! The kids just won't get new clothes for school next year... no big deal! :)

Actually, I'm blessed that my 3 kids seem to understand that this kind of stuff helps me keep my tenuous grip on sanity that's been eroded by raising them. :loveu:
