Rough Country

New style arm with flex joint. Its adjustable. Its made in India. If I had known this I would have bought the arms made by Rokmen.

So long as they are welded properly where the steel is made isn't all that important. Generally speaking Grade XX steel is Grade XX steel. I live in a town supported by a Steel Mill. Steel is a dying industry in North America so you better start getting used to foreign steel.
Besides it is hard not the beat the stock uppers!

The whole arm is made in India. Foreign steel does not bother me as much as foreign manufacturing. I try to buy stuff that is at least partially manufactured in the USA.

Glad you have something to bi*#h about..LOL.. Most of the stuff we buy is made out of the USA..Slap a tree hugger next time you see one ok...

im with you on this. i guess this is the reason that RC parts are inexpensive.

i would rather pay more for a product knowing its made in america rather than an american company out sourcing the manufacturing to a third world country just to keep the price down.

Hey Jason,
I have previously bought several lift kits from you for my xj and several friends of mine. Now I am running the 4.5 RC kit with drop brackets, with the 4.5 inch kit lower CA's. I am wanting to get rid of my stock upper CA's and go with some RC uppers. Do you make a fixed upper CA for the 4.5 kit, or would i have to have an adjustable? I am wanting to save as much money as possible so fixed would be nice if it would work. If so how much would they run me shipped to 71854. I am also wanting to upgrade my trac-bar as well, so if possible include a quote with your adjustable trac bar as well.

I just got my RC 4.5 in today(20MAR09), ordered from JCW on the 14MAR, shipped free on the 17MAR. Pretty good for 110 lbs of presents! Everything was there. The finish on everything was excellent. The rear suspension blocks were NOT there, and the kit is the exact same one thats on RC's website(from what I can tell anyway). Someone mustve got in JCW's business about stocking kits that arent BS.... I have yet to put it on as it came a few hours before I had to leave but looks like a painless install. Im happy!! But we'll see when it goes on, though from what I read it should be all okay.

I have a couple of questions, mainly about the adjustable trac bar. I see there is 2 part nos., one for a 2.5 to 4in and one for a 6 to 8in lifts. Where exactly would the 4.5 fall into that? If I was planning to step up a few more inches (for SOME reason... thx a lot naxja.org!) could I go with the 6 to 8inch one now with only a 4.5 lift? Thanks for the opinions!

at 6-8" of lift, you really need a HD trackbar and bracket that mounts the trackbar in double shear

So rough country's trackbar is too weaksauce then or would it be proficient? Ive been looking at everyones trackbars and they all look pretty thin and feeble, though Im sure some companys have more beefy stuff than others. That bracket (along with a few other places) looks like it could use some thick steel sheet welded to it. I was going to go with the swaybar discos first then trackbar then LCAs is that reasonable? Thanks for the help on my first lift

i just got my 3 inch with lift with new leafs last week thur jason.it gave me a ture 3 inches of lift. i don't know why every one said it is a rough ride mine rides better than stock. it was shipped out fast and easy to in stall. i also got the disco. i needed a t case drop and jason took care of me. it was the best company i have had to deal with and when people have complained about rough country they bought it some where eles just buy it from jason or rough country. but if you want to lift yours go big because as soon as your done you'll want it bigger.

I have the 4.5" lift and my XJ hasn't felt as solid since it was new! I wouldn't hesitate to buy RC again.

has anyone had a problem with the new adj. control arms not being able to adj. them. i got the lowers the other day and i can not seen to adjust them. i have the jam nut lossened all the way and i still can not lossen then, i have put one end in a vice and tryed that way and i even tryed heating the threads up and still nothing.

I have the new ones, and I was able to adjust them by hand. That is odd.... I would contact Jason, they threads might have been bad from the factory.

I HAVE THE RC 4.5. THE ADD A LEAFS THAT CAME W/THE KIT DID NOTHING SO I SWAPPED THEM OUT FOR THE SPRING PACK. TWO YEARS LATER THEY HAVE SETTLED ABOUT 1 1/2", BUT WITH THE LONGER SHACKLES IT ACTUALLY SITS LEVEL NOW AND DOESN'T LOOK LIKE A STINK BUG. I ALSO RUN A LOT OF WEIGHT W/TOOLS AND SUCH IN THE BACK.
I BLEW THE SHOCKS RIGHT AWAY, UPGRADED TO THEIR "HIGH END" GAS SHOCKS, AND HAVE HAD NO ISSUES SINCE )AND I BEAT THE CRAP OUT OF THEM).
THE RE-LOCATION BRACKET FOR THE TRACK BAR IS A HORRIBLE DESIGN. I HAD TO WELD IT IN PLACE DUE TO CRACKING AND ALWAYS WORKING LOOSE. OPT FOR THE REPLACEMENT BAR.
ALL CONSIDERED, I AM VERY HAPPY WITH IT, YOU CAN'T FIND A BETTER KIT FOR THE PRICE.

If these arms have a grease zerk in them, you have to take it out before you adjust the arm. I ruined a set of lowers by not knowing this.

My complete setup is as follows:

RC 4.5" Lift (Full Spring Pack)
Control Arm Drop Brackets
Nitro Shock Upgrade
Steering Stabilizer

I had done a lot of research on NAXJA before buying all of the above and heard so many mixed reviews on RC, I wasn't really sure what I was getting into. However, my XJ is a 1990 and I wasn't about to put on a lift kit that cost more than what I paid for the car, so RC was in my price range. I'll start by saying, I am not a mechanic person by nature and really this was my first major automotive project.

Pros:

Jason at RC (GRIMUSXJ99.) Gave me a good price, and got it shipped it out right away. I appreciate his responses to both the good and bad reviews on here I read here and was a major factor in my decision to buy RC. Kit arrived only a few days from ship date (I'm pretty sure my UPS man hates me now though, spring packs are not light!)

Kit is solid, and runs quite well. To compare what the suspension "feels like" (in the best way I can put it) was like going from an SUV to a Wrangler. Very bouncy. Definitely achieved exactly the look and feel I was going for with BFG 32x11.5 KM2s. I'm sure the control arm drop kit helped out with the ride.

Cons:

Biggest complaint by far is the quality of instructions. I would seriously suggest hiring a technical writer and having him install the kit with one of your mechanics/engineers and rewriting the instructions from scratch. A good start would be a "required and/or suggested tools" list, a list of what is in each bag and/or box (only one bag's contents is listed, the rest is up to you to find!) Many of the specified bolt sizes were incorrect, steps were out of order and/or repeated incorrectly. Some of this may be due to the varying years of XJ's; not sure. Also, minor nitpick but there are also lots of spelling errors - really just adds to the unprofessional feel of the instructions. A little reference of bolt sizes and torque values would also help (if you're installing on an XJ older than 1995 you can bet you are going to at least break one or two of the original bolts and be heading to the auto store looking for a replacement.) Also, if there was some way to integrate the CA drop kit instructions into the lift installation instructions (since after all you suggest it should be purchased with the 4.5" lift on your website) that would be great, I kinda had to figure out where to fit those in during the lift kit install. Minor gripe though.

Also, as many have commented on.. the trackbar relocation design is bad. You should not run this design very long without getting an adjustable track bar. I say this because I ran mine for about 500 miles (post lift) and last night I put on a JKS adjustable trackbar. When I took off the relocated stock track bar, I discovered that the "relocation" hole had stretched to almost double it's original size, and the amount of steel I had holding the track bar in was only 2mm thick. The bolt had bent into a "V" shape. Not good. I would guess that in the next 500 miles that sucker would have popped off, and god knows where. If you would like me to point out errors I found in the instructions I would be happy to do that to help.

Overall:

I am very happy with the kit and would buy from RC again. For the price, you can't beat it. Jason is always on the forum and remains objectional yet helpful with any problems you might have. My Jeep rides better now than it did pre-lift. The instructions were terrible, but there were probably some points where experienced mechanics or people who have done this before could have read through the lines. I expected better instructions for something you pay a pretty big chunk of change on though. Trackbar relocation needs to be redesigned or you need to start including a adjustable track bar in your kits (even if you have to charge extra $$$.)

Oh, one more positive is the RC website, which is graphically well done and easy to navigate. Might want to have same company help with your instructions? Just a suggestion.

So do the newer kits come with the newer 2.2 "upgraded" shocks that "ride like a dream"?

I have the 6.5" kit and only have one complaint. The shock bushings are terrible!!! After about 400 miles and only one light trail trip they were non existent. The rest of the kit is great for the price though.

Well going on all the positive talk about RC I have decided to import the 6.5 into South Africa with the upgrade Nitro shocks. It is just my importing agent is giving me the run around at the moment. I can't wait to get my kit so I can install. I have my Hankook MT 33's already fitted to the rims just waiting for the kit to arrive so I can fit the lot.
How much trimming you guys think i might need to do with the 6.5?
