Ross's Jeep that will take longer than Rob's to build thread...

I replaced both output seals on the StaK. Somebody must of changed the yokes and not changed the seals to match, the seal lip didn't even contact the yoke surface. Holds oil perfect now and shifts like a dream, I'd like to eventually build a sight tube between the case flugs. Tore apart the front driveshaft and clearanced the guts, gained more angle and hopefully won't bind/click now. Cut out some 1/8" AL plate for a gas tank cover/muffler heat shield. Bought some Inner Air Locks off Pirate, gunna get some rock rings and stiffen up the rims. That should take care of my bead issue I had.

I cant wait to wheel this at NACfest!!!

It doesn't look as lame when you see it in person

Been buttoning up all the odds and ends I wanted to have done before NACfest. Wasn't able to get a couple of things done that I was hoping too due to unforseen issues. I got a set of Inner Air Locks and bought some rock rings, but the rings are the wrong size so now I gotta wait until I get the correct ones before I tear everything down. I also haven't picked up an AW4 shifter yet either.

Got all the boatsides and bellypans skins done. 1/8" plate with 1/2" plastic, 3/8" countersunk bolts throughout.

Got some old toolboxes mounted and strapped down behind the seats. DS box has spare fuilds and stuff in it, PS box has trail tools and such. Still have so make a better extinguisher mount and bracket.

New steering wheel cover and a switch/gauge panel where the radio used to be. Only one switch is hooked up so far for the aux fan over ride. The gauge is an Autometer Phantom tranny temp.

Engine bay together and ready. PSC pump and remote resi mounted, has a tab coming off the engine hoop for the bracket. Winch wiring and back together and working properly, I had left a ground wire for the solenoid loose.

NACfest report

The jeep did real well for a solid three days of beating on it pretty good at Rausch Creek. For a jeep that had very little shakedown, nothing major popped up. I did encounter a few issues. Since the rock rings I had recieved before I left were the wrong size, I didnt get any installed in time. REALLY wish I had now, a couple of my rims took a beating. Transfer case shifted well and preformed nicely, 5.44:1 was nice in the deep rock and comp course. Used 3:1 alot of the time otherwise, no issues with it popping out. I did blow a hydro line when I wedged my PS rim into a rock., hard enough it ripped the steering wheel outta my hands. I think the rapid pressure increase on the return line for that side just couldnt take it. Since the PSC fittings are reuseable, I hack sawed the line back two inches and remade the connection on the trail. Wheeled fine all next day until the very end when my GF went the move the jeep around on flat ground and it did the same thing. Punched the DS nose it pretty good, stock sheetmetal bent like a noddle, looks like I'll get started on my dove noise sooner. Blew out the DS glass and bent the roof, looks like I'll get started on the dovetail sooner too.

Some vids and pics so far...

glad you got it going....took long enough .!. :D .!.

The hydraulic line situation concerns me that it happened...twice. Buzz Kelvin at PSC and talk to him about it and see what he says.

I'm still unsure how I feel about the fitting. I can't really blame it for blowing first time, I wedged the PpS rim/hub into a rock HARD. I was surprised nothing ellse in the sterring broke even. I trail fixed it with a hacksaw and redid the fitting, I doubt I cut the line cleanly enough and I also doubt I. Had the fitting tight enough. It started to pour as I was fixing it and I just wanted to get outta there. The repair lasted all thru the next day, including thru the vids above, it wasn't until I was almost on the trailer it blew again.

Here's a couple more from NACfest, playing on the comp course and the notch at Crawler's Ridge where I blew the hydro line.

too much air in the tires

I ran them at like 12-14 psi because I had no beadlocks and 9" wide rims. Still managed to slip one bead, banged up that rim pretty good. Tore up another rim when I wedged the PS front at Crawler's Ridge and dented another one at some point. Only 1 outta the 4 rims didn't need straightening. The Treps stuck like glue though, they kicked ass on the rocks of Rausch Creek. Did the Trail 5 Hill Climb rock face without even a single chirp.

Now that I got back, the correct size rock rings were waiting for me. I added in the half moons on the outside so water wouldn't collect in the rim and so I could access the tire valve stem. After I welded them up, I mounted up the Inner AirLocks. Mounted all of it by hand by myself with one big pry bar, what a joy that was. Now the tires are all around 7-8psi, seem to wrap around the tree stump I flexed on very nicely.

The raffle was kind to me again this year. Scored some Brown Dog super brackets that will go along nicely with the motor mounts I won last year from them. I also got a $100 gift certificate to MasterPull, unsure if I wanna go to rope just yet, the winch cable is still brand new and nice.

The jeep is going out again in a couple of weeks to a place that will surely smash the crap outta the body even more. For now, the DS inner fender area has been hammered roughly back into shape enough and the fender/header panel tossed. I need to get my ass going on build my tube bender. Gunna relocated the battery and dovenoise all that junk outta there, build some hoops to protect the radiator/support and tube out everything from the doors forward. Hopefully it'll still kinda look like a XJ front with a narrowed grill. Probably gunna choptop the back but still unsure what I wanna do back there.

damnit!!!

damnit!!!

If you're thinking the same thing that I was thinking then he would not have enjoyed inflating/deflating his tires during fall crawl.
