Restore Old Jeep

Kids are gone and now is the time to restore an old jeep. For insurance purposes this jeep must be 25 plus years old. It will be used off road at Jeep Jamborees etc. Does anybody have a favorite? I have time, money and space to do it. Mechanical ability is not a problem, have most shop tools including welder, air compressor, hoist etc. My main intent would be to create a fuel injected, reliable trail machine. My reason for posting here is to avoid doing a million hours of reserch. Has anybody got a good vehicle suggestion to start with?? Drivetrain combination etc? Thanks

How much work do you really want to do?

Location, location, location........where are you located and hows the rust
in your area?

Find a good 85 CJ-7, and a 'bad' CJ-7 25 years old.
Switch the VIN #'s....(no one will ever know)
Swap the 4.2 for a 4.0 high output, follow up with tranny/transfer of your
choice..(go 300)
Wide track axles are easy to locate and a 20 can be made just as strong
as a 44 by replacing shafts & welding the tubes.
Go spring over using YJ springs.....for get a lift.

You'll also need a elect. fuel pump and some other goodies......

Famous last words. The only way that stays that way is if you move and don't leave a forwarding address :laugh3:

Why the 25 year rule?
