resetting ecu after cai install

any need / gain to resetting the ecu on my 99' once I install my k&n air intake system? Never did it when I put in the drop in, but maybe the increase in air on the full kit may warrant it ?

Reset as in doing what? Unhooking the battery and waiting for the memory to clear? Or resetting values in the ECU?

i asked myself this question earlier but didnt want to look like an idiot. lol.

if the CAI is your only mod,or its in conjuctions with something simple like a bored throttle body, id just unhook the battery, drink a beer, and then let the computer do its thing. if your more involved with your motor... then there may be a better alternative.

Ya i should have been more specific. Only real mods would be the new cold air kit, and a magnaflow cat back exhaust. I am thinking a quick 30 min, positive terminal to engine ground should do the trick....

I never understood the 4-7 part. The PCM doesn't know if the headlights are on or off.

I think that's simply to discharge the capacitors if they haven't already.

I could understand that if it was with the battery still disconnected. With the battery disconnected I have heard turn the key to start, or touch the battery terminals together or turn the headlights on. However, 4-7 is after you have reconnected the battery.

Yeah, that was stupid, I wasn't thinking when I posted that. Shorting the cables should discharge the caps. This is a thread I had seen previously, reiterating the same thing I've read elsewhere.

Actually paying attention this time, I'm honestly not sure how that works. Maybe one of the EE types around here has a better idea.
