Fuel pressure regulator maybe? Squeeze off the return line to the tank and see what your pressure does.

Only problem is: a buddy in cali bought the first one (which went bad) and doesn't have the receipt... so it'd be an honor system thing.
But Bosch pump it is?

looks like it's only 20 bucks more for the bosch. $104 at napa plus ten for the strainer? Doesn't look like it comes as a unit. But I could be wrong. I'll have to call tomorrow to find out. they close at 6.

Now after looking at all of this information why not start with the basics.

Do you have enough GAS in the tank for the pump to pick up? Don’t forget that the gas gage sending units attached to your new pump can give you a different level reading than your old unit.

If the answer is yes then I would start by looking under the drivers-side, of your Jeep just forward of the top of the arch of the frame where it goes over the rear axle for a fuel filter. It will be a cylinder looking object connected to metal lines by short rubber houses. The back metal line will lead back to the gas tank, if you locate this object, this a fuel filter that I would replace before doing anything else. Quote from Joe Peters “It is very cheap preventive maintenance”.

Common sense rules apply here. Gasoline and its fumes are very flammable. Have a good fire extinguisher at the ready as well some rags to clean up the spills that will occur when removing the old filter. If rags are used to clean up spills take them outside to air dry.

More common sense, once you have this issue resolved keep your gas tank level at a minimum of 1/4 full. When the pump is submerged in gasoline the gasoline acts as a heat absorber for the pump. A hot pump is more likely to fail prematurely.

I know there's fuel in it. I took a picture of the inside of the tank to look for rust and such.
the fuel filter was replaced aboout 3500 miles ago. So unless I got a clogged filter from the store, it's still new.

And for real this time.

Swapped the bosch pump into the airtex assembly. and... AND!! VROOM!

I still have my high revv on startup issue, but it was doing that for a long time before this issue... Just another renix gremlin. It comes back down to idle after a few seconds, so it doesn't bother me too much.
