Renix Not starting. Fuel pump not priming. only 7v at pump.

I'll look in the FSM for you when I get time tomorrow.

screenshot the diagrams for you.

I would appreciate that greatly. Thank you.

okay, so after further digging, I've discovered that I have power to the FPR, but no power after the starter relay.
but neither jumping the relay pins, or pin 87 to the ballast resistor wires, or straight from the battery to the resistor wires will make the damn thing run. I'm freakin' stumped.

I hacen't forgotten about this, but I also haven't had time to look in the FSM.

I got a lot going on this week.
I'll make an effort to do it tomorrow.

For sure, I understand. I appreciate all your help thus far.

I'm just confused as to why I have no power after the starter relay, but jumping straight to the pump doesn't work either.

tomorrow I will go force open the hood on my pile (it's bent, the only straight piece on my junk is the roof) and look at my wires.

hahaha! the hood is one of the few straight things on mine! and thank you. EVERY idea helps.
Not to mention I may be moving in a few weeks, so I really need to get my junk running

I have no regard for sheetmetal.

I'm not exactly sure how my hood has ended up bent. I suspect when the header panel was destroyed it got the hood a bit too. I'm just amazed I haven't broken the sunroof yet.

hah I did break my sun roof. replaced it with more sheetmetal.

Ok.

so thoughts I had about this.
It should be the green fusible link that goes to a red wire that powers all the relevant relays. There's more than one ;) Thanks AMC. You'll hae to follow it back into the harness a bit to check it.

I had problems with my fuel pump wirin under the coolant football. Thta's where you'll find a duct taped crimped together wire splice. might want to check that. Since it's not priming I'd really suspect something in the ballast resistor bypass, but I've not got one of those or a FSM that references it, so I can't help you much with that.

Have you tried jumping 12V to the diagnostic pin for the fuel pump to see if it runs? If it does, then you've got a problem in the front half of the harness. Or something wiered with yor relay situation.

Have you checked the ignition switch wiring? There's two wires that bring power into the cab and to the ignition switch. They're in the top of the fuseblock. Pretty sure it's a red one and an orange one. My junk would randamly stop running and it was those two wires at the bulkhead concector behind the fuseblock. 10mm (?) socket to the bolt in the middle of it will get it off. Clean all the brown nasty salant out of it with a plastic safe solvent. I used non clorinated brake cleaner.

I've addressed the nasty cluster of crimped wires before. I somehow managed to solder them together. But I'll check again.
Do you know which diagnostic pin is the one for the fuel pump?
I'll check on those ignition wires as well
I really wish I had a fsm...

oh... and which red wire? where does it originate/plug in?

More news.
The 4 red wilre splice is good.
ran a jumper wire from the battery to the pump again. Nothing. even kept the connector plugged in and stuch a drill bit down into the connector to keep the grounds connected. Nothing.

Checked voltage at the wires going to the pump at the connector. 7.6. I think I mis-stated earlier on and said there was basically none. that's not correct, it's 7.6v

the ballast bypass is good it's literaly two wires wire-nutted together. not much to go wrong. and I've checked it a bunch of times anyway

didn't check the ign wires yet. got frustrated and came back in. (Inm working in a parking lot, not a garage. fire ants galore, rocky asphalt, and I've had a really bad few days.

Thanks. And jumping that will tell me whether it's engine bay or further back?

Fair enough. Thank you.

I didn't read ur whole thread sorry but I had identical symptoms with mine two weeks ago an it was the relay... I swapped other working relays in it didn't fix it so I went about checking everything from the ignition switch to the wiring harness itsself. Got fed up and ran a wire straight from the battery to the pump with a switch for a week . 1 day my buddy stops by and happened to have a brand new relay. I swapped it in an the jeep ran... Go figure

huh... weird. Guess it can't hurt to replace it anyway then, right?
what's killing me is: even with a wire straight from the battery, the pump won't run. it's the middle pin on the connector, right?
