removing inner knuckles from axle tubes

How much beating can the inner knuckles take ? Im narrowing a 76 ford d44. I've got the c's removed and i used a cut off wheel to cut around the tubes where the inner knuckles are welded to the axle. Ive been beating on the knuckles and they arent budging. now they are covered in hammer markes. should I worry about weakening or bending them? once the welds are cut or ground through how much force should it take to spin or removed the knuckles?

can you see the seam all around the edge? it will still take a lot of force, I used what must have been a 20 pound sledge on a 4 foot handle.

I cut the tube of if the C's with a roto tool and cutting wheels

I used a metal cutting disc on my 4 1/5 inch grinder and cut into the weld where it is built up around the edge of the c so the weld is still built up on the tube but there is a 1/2 inch deep cut around the tube flush with the knuckle

maybee I need a bigger hammer

It's still welded.

here, I drew this up real quick. everything inside the red line is the weld bead and penetration. if you cut along the blue line, your two materials are still connected in the green area.

Gotcha. Thanks for the pic it says a thousand words. thats exactly what I did. I didnt realize that I had co grind into the knuckle. gues Ill get out the grinder again. do I need to worry about damiging to knuckle form beating on it though?
