Reduced noise power steering line?

I am looking to replace the high pressure power steering line on my moms 99 sable. Napa(also everyone else) offers 2 lines, one normal and one reduced noise. The price is about double($50 more) for the reduced noise version.

Is it worth while to have the reduced noise line? How much louder is the normal version of the line usually?

Were you able to see them side by side? Ford products all have their distinct PS whining noise, worse when leaking/failing. I wouldn't waste your money on the latter.

The napa site shows pictures, it looks like one has a small canister. The one I will be replacing has the canister also. I am planning to the pump as well due to leaks no really sound. However, if the normal hose will amplify any whine I don't know if I want to use that as my moms would be calling me about ha. If it doesn't make a real world difference I'll save her 50 bucks though.

I used to work for ford. When inside the vehicles there is not much noise from the steering if at all typically, unless it is BAD. So replacing it with the line that doesn't have the canister is not going to make the extra monies worth of difference.

My mom used to have a 96 Taurus POS, which is basically the same as what your mom has. I replaced the PS pump twice, never had to change the lines tho, and hers did not have the canister. I believe that Ford did that to make money, seeing as how all of them whine, even new. Choice is yours, but I would save her the extra $$

Cool thanks for the input. This thing may be a POS but it sure has held up over the years. The steering has never whined but the HP line started leaking so I figure with it all apart may as well replace the pump, plus she ran low on fluid several times.

I am dreading the HP line fitting on the rack, it looks to be a real pain to get a wrench on.

I was looking today and I think the leak was just from a worn out teflon o ring/gasket at the pump to high pressure line. I removed the line and the teflon gasket was just in shreds. I don't know if that was the leak or that was her "mechanic" over tightening the fitting to try and stop the leak.

I got a new teflon gasket from the dealer for $1.50 and I am hoping that was the source of the leak right there.
