Redbird SRA Trail clean up and maintance Nov 15th

I had the opposite problem - overfilled it and caused the pinion seal to leak and fling gear oil all over the gas tank.
I may have that problem this time. I know for a fact that those bearings are getting lubed.:D

Yeah i don't think you would have made it home on that!

Must have gone on that hill you winched up.

:D

Rev

wasn't he the only one that winched up that hill?

Yes, I was the only winchee. I was the first one and didn't want to slick it all up for the guys behind me. :)

yea....that hill...the one that even Les walked right up.

:D

Now hold on Rev, I'll be the first to admit I had some problems that day, but the only place I had any problems "going up" was that stupid little dip where my front end wanted to kick sideways for one reason or another. My biggest problem involved going down. I sat and patiently waited on you guys in front most of the day, so just keep that in mind before you use me for your "even Mikey ate it" jokes.

I'll be the first to admit that sometime Hale is a big puss though! :D

Les

Meh, someone has to be the guinea pig. Hale just happened to end up in the lead since I was riding in his Jeep. Had I driven my XJ, I imagine I would have been in front. After the conditions of the steep downhills, I'm glad I didn't :D

Pat had the best idea for the 2nd downhill, we all should have done that, or at least had one rig at the top winch everyone else down.

Speaking from the passenger seat of Pats junk..... Being the last jeep in a pack you get a little different perspective then the first rig through.

There are two trees remaining at RedBird that will meet their maker if I am there with a saw. The group that was there knows the two I am talking about. I guess one of them is more like a small clump of them. But either way, they need out.

who gave pat the idea to do what he did?

I think I said something to Gene about rappelling when we were still watching from the Jeep, and then some others had the idea around the same time.

Seemed like a good idea after watching Les and his misfortune...

Everyone slid down the hill and nearly slammed the offending trees head-on, but ruts at the bottom saved you at the last second. Les had the misfortune of missing the ruts and hitting the tree head-on, bending the top bar of his bumper in. It was a hard hit. After that, Pat decided to winch down since he didn't have a bar protecting his radiator.

I would imagine if he had an airbag, it would have deployed.

I think i remember that one from the run in august was it on the left at the bottom of a hill going into a creek?

Man I'am glad the wedding kept me away from that .. other wise well ya know me and the trees!!!

I'am glad to hear everyone made home safe.

I almost hit that tree...but at the last second got kicked to the left...barely missed it after everyone else got kicked to the right...

when i was at the top i initially thought about winching down it, but then said what the hell...who's to worry about body damage with my pile...

You know, in hind sight, I've almost convinced myself I'd have been better off descending in neutral. I was in 4-low going over ... so I'm sure that just resulted in a four wheel slide. Maybe, just maybe, there'd been some kinda of steering at least. I know I have to use neutral sometimes when driving on ice and snow just so I have steering.

I should have my junk back together sometime this weekend. I've gotten a passenger side door glass and fan shroud from the salvage yard. I also have the front end and bumper pulled off the front of the Jeep. I noticed the front end on the driver side was sitting quite a bit lower ... I found the frame rail on the drivers side has been tweaked down and in a bit as well as the front coil spring on that side is not quite as "strong" as the other side. So, I'll do some "counter tweaking" of some sort, swap the coil springs side to side, and repair/redo the front bumper. Since the area that was tweaked on the frame rail is also where the steering box mounts, I have to reinforce that area too ... probably in the bumper mount. I'll beat out the sheet metal and patch it all back together ... good as new! :D
