Red and Green Squares? What's the deal?

What is with the green and red squares next to our names. Who decides what "rating" someone gets. I haven't been here very long (less than a few months) and I have 4 red squares that I guess mean that I am "Infamous around these parts"??
Can someone explain this please? If I did something wrong, what do I need to do to fix it?

It rates your e-persona. Green=Good, Red=Bad. It's more or less a member/user way to say who knows what. Or not. Some around here think that getting more of one color is better than the other. Some believe that if they are all red, they are good to go, same with the green.

Look in your user CP up at the left top of the screen. It will tell you who posed what and why. You can give points to someone by clicking the little scale icon at the right top of their post.

Actually, non-members can't see who left rep., just the comment.

Also, if you have a negative rep total (all red) you can leave a comment for someone, but it won't effect the person's rep total. Only those with green reps will have effects on others.

Plus, the higher the rep total you have, the more effect you have when you add to another person's rep.

I have a 13,000 rep total. When I rate someone it has a BIG effect on their's. For instance, if I neg. someone who has, say 4 or 5 green jewels, it may knock them down to 2 or 3 red ones. OTOH, if I good rep someone with 2 or 3 greens, it may lift them up to 5 or 6 greens.

I thought that was the case but he was a member so I was telling him. Also I wondered about the fact that the more points you have the bigger affect it has. I noticed that latley if I give someone points they get more dots then they used too.

On the same subject. In my user CP I have two reputation posts one has a comment, and one is blank, the squares are gray on both of them. Is that the way they are supposed to be, or am I missing something? Also when someone rates you is that how it shows up to you, or can you not see it unless you ar reading a thread with one of your own posts in it.

The gray square is from a user with a negative rep total. Also, a person doesn't need to leave any comment to rate your post.

As for the second question, I don't fully understand what you're asking, but whatever you see is what they typed or didn't type in the comment part of the rep.

The rep system has nothing to do with the thread rating system. I'm sure you know, but in case you don't, you can see what folks have said in comments that they left when they repped your POST by looking in your usercp.

The Rep system means nothing other than some fool dont agree with you , it has nothing to do with missleading or unfriendly comments and folks dont need to tell you who they are to give you red squares ---- really they dont mean a thing they dont need to tell you why or nothing , you can just start giving people bad reps just cause and it dont matter ,so if you decide to give someone a bad rep just cause you want to you can.......

Members *CAN* see who left what comments. Users cannot. *THAT* is accurate information. Other than that, the Rep points are just for fun, but some people take it seriously. My guess is that they are short people.

Well, you can see that I have one red square. I can see the comment left on my most recent post but I can't see who put it there even though I am a member. I don't have the habit of leaving bad posts. Mostly they are questions. Don't know what I did to recieve red. Oh well! I still enjoy all the information on here and being a part of .
