being broke, and cant afford a winch and bumper set up.. so does someone wanna explain to me exactly how to pull my self out with a hi lift? I understand the concept, but how do i short hitch a strap? thats my concern.. like if i have a 30 foot strap.. and the tree is 18 feet away.. what do i do?

A Hi-Lift recoverey is ONLY for emergencies. You have no idea how dangerous it is.

Anywho. Hook a line to the top of your hi-lift. Then hook a line to the rig your are recovereing and hook that to the "lift foot" (the part you put under your bumper when lifting) be very careful as there is A LOT of force stored in the jack when moving things.

yea i know that part.. but what do i do about half hitching the tow strap to make it the right length?

Carry some chain with hooks on both ends, that way you can adjust the length using a chain instead of a strap.

Wrap it a few more times around the tree?

:D

Dude, read the URL, "how NOT to use a high lift"

The advise is correct, but BE CARE-FULL, more than one tooth has been lost to this use...

in that situation next to the hi-lift is probably not where i would want to be, if i were you i would just wheel with a buddy, i don't have a winch but i never go alone so i'm not really worried, i just carry a big strap and make sure the accompanying vehicle has tow points
