rear sway bar, ya or nay

This is an interesting phenomenon, how exactly did the rear "lift up an inch" by removing your sway bar?

I think it was holding the rear down a bit. Perhaps mine was bent, I don't know, but it really had to be held down to be placed back on the u-bolts, and I measured my rear before and after disconnecting and gained about an inch. Really soft springs?

I am putting in my OME leaf packs soon and figure while I have everything apart I should remove the rear sway bar for added flex while out on the trail.

what do you think? Keep it or remove it. it is my daily driver but I have heard that the benifits of removing it outweigh keeping it.

I don't see the advantage of keeping it on if you have any lift at all on your Jeep. I am running 8 inches on my XJ and i removed mine and the body roll is deffinately there but it is not a sports car nor will it ever be. the fact that you are getting newer leafs in the rear will stiffen it up and if you are getting raised leafs it will stiffen it up even more so it is pretty much useless unless you are just trying to make a lifted street machine.

Trash the sway bar, but keep the mounting brackets. They are the same width as the eyes on a shock absorber and make excellent brackets that can be welded on to provide a place to bolt shocks on and eliminate the pin mounting that is currently there.

I prefer to use my XJ as most of us here do; but you should check out the performance threads and other sites for an education.....I was impressed; they get dialed in. :shocked:

Just take it off, and you will never know the difference, and like XJWheelie said use the brackets fro the shocks, i am about to do that. There are couple write ups about it so just do that and you made your old swaybar usefull for something.
