Rear shock cross-mounts

This past week I managed to pull this gem off: (guess I should have gotten the rear limit straps in!)

Now I would like to rig up some form of new mount in the back for the shocks. I realize going through the floor is probably 'ideal' and I toyed with that in the past..but truly dont want to get that involved and not to mention invasive on the inside of the jeep for that...I know JKS and T&J offer a kit of sorts that is a cross-tube..but I cant say I have ever seen it installed, or spoken with anyone that has actually installed it.

So I guess I am looking for impressions of those kits, as well as perhaps some other creative/effective ideas people have come up with for upper rear shock mounting (obviously not using the stock bolt holes at this point)
 
truth be told, if someone can show me a pretty nice way that they achieved that, i wouldnt be terribly opposed to it.

at the end of the day though this jeep isnt competing or anything, i like to casually have fun at speed, so doing a lot of work to get my shocks mounted inside the jeep isnt something im too crazy about right now....but who knows..i never thought id have air bumps and fox shocks either...hahah

being in the east this jeep is a trail rider as well
 
im about 2/5th's of where you're at! i can hear it tear when it drops off a bump on the freeway at 90. im installing mine thru the bed into the bedcage/cage this weekend, before it looks like the pic above!
 
I have the JKS crossbar and it works fine. Bottomed out on it plenty of times before I got my bump stops done. Not much to say about it, allows decent travel without going inside the Jeep. The fact is, my Jeep doesnt full on race, and never will. I can still put alot of those rangers in there place and crawl with decent articulation, even with the race leafs I got (tired of trashing regular leafs so went all out on those, plus they help with axle wrap from added tourque).... BajaXJ has another brand that I believe is weld on.... Might work beter. Crossover Ent. or something, im sure he will chime in.

Yeah mine is cross ent., it uses the factory rear swaybar mount locations instead of the shock locations to mount. I love it although you will have to cut your driverside lower mount off the axle and turn it around to the front, on the cross ent crossover both shocks mount in front of the axle, so if you do moderate to hardcore trails or speedy stuff you will want some sort of axle wrap eliminating device, unless you like buying new leaves all the time
 
I ordered one of the cross shock hoops 2 weeks ago. It should be herr anytime. I couldn't bring myself to cut through the floor. Plus I have 12in travel shocks. I may have considered going thru the floor if I didn't have the shocks. I can't wait to get the hoop on there. I will give my thoughts on it then.
 
Just a word to the wise, I ordered and paid for 2 of the Cross hoops over 5 weeks ago and he still hasnt even given me a tracking number yet. I would avoid Cross Enterprises if I were you.
 
Since you have to fix the broken floor anyway, meaning pull up the carpet in the back and weld the broken section back in, I'd just beef it up when you fix it. Weld up the cracks, then plate across on top of the floor to beef up both upper shock mounts. Then just keep using the stock upper mounts. The problem with aftermarket shock mounts is that they all reduce the height of the upper shock mount making it harder to mount longer shocks. Most lean the shock inward to account for this, which is an exercise in futility since leaning the shock inward means you use less shock travel and so don't need a longer shock.

Just a thought.......
 
5 weeks wow. I call the dude at cross every day and he swears they are shipping the next day.........He gave me some sob story about his mother....
 
Hmm... he gave me a sob story about his daughter a few weeks ago and he's been ignoring my calls for the last 2 weeks. He had no problem accepting my money though.

Anyone local that can check up on him for us?
 
If you don't go through the floor, chop that sucker off and replace it with cross tubes above or below the floor. Since I don't JS I did mine with 2x2 square 3/16 wall tubing (hot rolled, below the floor, nothing to write home about), one tube for each shock - expect to use about 33" of tube for each. Remember that messing with this will require you to modify the gas tank supports as well if you haven't already installed a fuel cell or something.

EDIT: oh hey you're in CT, how'd you manage to do that? There isn't any JS territory near here that I know about...
 
He gave me a BS tracking number......The sad thing is thats the only product if you don't want to go thru the florr. I don't like the way the JKS one mouunts. So he has us over a barrel......I'd like to burn a bag of poop on his door step!

Man I went to put it on. Guess where the muffler shop schmoo welded the tail pipe hanger? Thats right to the passenger side seat belt bolt. Ignoring the factory hanger right there. Aside from that my exhaust fits and won't have to be modified.
