Have any other folks tried using 3/4 ton leafs from a 78/ 79 4x4 dodge truck.
I have a dana 60 with 4/10 gears and a really good set of springs. the springs measure out to fit and looks like it will give an extra 5 to 6 inches of lift.

Just wondering if anyone else has done this??

Back in my (much) younger days I somehow acquired a 1947 Hudson pickup with rear springs that had probably 15 or 20 leaves in them. No kidding -- at the mounting pads the spring packs were 8" deep. When I first looked at it parked behind a rural Sunoco station I wondered why it didn't have shock absorbers.

Hah! Didn't need 'em, and there probably wasn't/isn't a shock made that has enough rebound resistance to handle those springs if you ever managed to compress them. I could stand back by the tailgate and jump up and down in that thing and it didn't even move.

The wierdest part is that they appeared to be OEM springs. Must have been Hudson's idea of a 3/4-ton suspension. My grandfather always said Hudson's were over-built, but ... SHEESH!

Bottom line -- be prepared for a "stiff" ride.

eh, just pull a couple leafs

plus, an XJ with 1-ton axles I would assume weight significantly more than stock

1 ton axles arent going to make a difference of the sprung weight of a cherokee. They would only make a difference on the overall weight.

Ok heres the scoop, I pulled the springs and shackles of the d 60(for now) I had to Grind very little, ( mainly knock the rust of ) of the ends of the springs and the shackles. the rear bolts fit great, the fronthad to be shimed on each side about an 1/8 inch. The only problem I ran into is that the tie bolt setting put the center of the axle about 1.5 inches back. I can fix this problem with my axle shims or just cut the fenders to match. not sure what I will do yet.
The total amount of lift was 6.5 inches :D I will try and get some pics up while working on the project. Now I have got to find some front Coils Soon
