rear axle shock mount relocation

I moved mine up, shave the diff as well, now I just slide right over stuff.

It's all about having the best length shocks. I moved my mounts up even with the axle, and still had great flex and travel in the rear. I kept them outboard as much as possible to help the shock length. You just have to measure and get the exact right length shock, since you'll use every bit of the travel. I ended up with 10" Bilstein 5150's.

I'm running the NitroCharger extended shocks (3-5" lift) and at about 6" of lift and bump stopped heavy on the rear for the 35's. I droop all the way out with no issues and those shocks.

I'm buying new shocks now.
I really don't want to shorten my mounts. I feel like I would loose to much. 5.5" lift on 35's. Bilstein 7100's 10" show 14.06 compressed. I measured for new shocks (Rear) right at 18" compressed but I feel I had about 1-2" of travel left.
So respectively 16-18".

I could take 2" out of the lower mounts and still run the 10"short-bodies.
If I don't shorten them I could run 12" short bodies.

Is it really necessary for a trail/mild crawler?

(this was a super old thread but I didn't want to start a new one)
