Who has moved their shock mounts on the 8.25? I'm getting mine done on wednesday and I'm lookin for ideas. I have RC 4.5" long arm kit and i had to tilt the pinion which angled my shock mounts. The shock hits the mount cuz of this so I have to move them. I'm just not sure where to mount them if I do. If any has done this and can share some tips please do. Pictures of the mounts would be helpful as well.

THanks

I did this to my 99 XJ last year. I took a new spring perch and cut it in half. Then I drilled a 5/8 hole in it and used the bolt on shock studs for a 70-80s chevy truck. I cut off the stock mounts and then welded the new mounts to the axle as close the ubolts as I could. I left the XJ sitting on the ground to tack the mounts to axle with shocks slid on to the studs so I knew they sitting right. After I tacked them in place I unhooked the shocks and raised the XJ on the hoist and burned the mounts on. HTH

This is my D44,but my 8.25" is the same using cut down factory mounts.

Do both shocks hit the mount? Or just the passenger side?

I have RE 3.5" packs in the rear (with 6Deg shims) that give around 4.5" of lift (even after a year of use) & My passenger side only hits slightly.

i am moving mine next weekend.
i plan to plasma cut the old mounts off, dress the welds, cut down the old bracket to suit, & weld it back so the stud is at axle centerline. this should pick up 3" or 4" of ground clearance.

I have 4" RC springs, 1.5" shackles and 4 degree shims. The shocks are RC's new 2.2 performance shocks. They are mounted can-up. There is a metal washer welded on above the shock bushing hoop that the shock bumpstops rests on and this metal washer hits the actual mount on the passenger side. On the driver's side the washer and nut hit this same part of the shock. If the mounts were parallel then it would be fine but they are angled now. it makes a bang when going over big bumps.

Just watch your shock length if you move the mounts up very much. It's nice to get some more clearance under the axle, but make sure the shocks don't bottom out. If you're getting different shocks, then no big deal, but if you plan to use your existing shocks then be aware.

X2 on using caution on going too high, if you do you'll seriously limit your travel and maybe only be able to use stock length shocks to keep from bottoming out. Mine are mounted like the ones pictured in the last post.

Yeah that's why I decided not to move up the mounts because if you look at the picture below you will know that it's not a good idea with the shocks I have. It will leave me with 1 or 2 inches of uptravel.

I like the fact you cut down the mounts. They look good. My question I guess is why didn't you move them from the bottom of the axle as to make the bottom of the tube smooth instead of more things to get hung up??

Another example of mounts to high and to far inboard and improper shock length.
Goatman hit the nail on the head, thats also why I moved mine out further also.

There really to far in? I thought they weren't great but I didn't think it was overall that bad. and I've since changed shocks, shoulda mentioned that.

Please explain why these are mounted too high and too far inboard - what is the problem with how they are mounted? I don't understand.

Proper shock length is easy to deal with - buy new shocks.

My question was for: RCP Phx and Andrew2516 I guess. The pics show the mounts hanging below the axle tube.

As for them shocks being to far in- If you compare the photos on page 1 of the shortened mounts and page 2 of the mounts moved in slightly if you take into account that the mount is moved up and in slightly there onlt appears to be about an inch it has been moved inward. Upward though it looks like close to 3 inches.
I agree that moving them to far in will affect ride quality and could bottom out if you use the same shock. If you are replacing the shock with the mount modification the you will get a shock for that new application so they don't bottom out.
