Disclaimer: I'm a relative noob and not all that knowledgable when it comes to mechanics. I know how to change some fluids, and I'm trying to take on other projects one at a time so I can learn more. I've got a relatively stock '01 XJ (automatic) that I'm working with.

I'm looking at easy to install performance enhancers, and I've run across the RE 1062 62mm throttle body. I am wondering:
#1: Is it worth the upgrade?
#2: Will I want to use a spacer in addition to this unit (for that matter, can I use one)?

Here is the part:

I'm planning on a new air intake and I've already replaced the muffler with a flowmaster. I figure this is a project that even I can attempt, but any advice is appreciated.

FYI, this is a DD right now (not for long I hope) and I'm planning on a RE 4.5" lift, new driveshaft & new wheels in the next two months.

I can get the item for about a hundred dollars less than that at fullsizexjgear, and if it's an easy install then its probably worth it to me, but that link you posted for $65 is tempting. Now if I can just go without my jeep for 48 hours...

BTW, my ulterior motive for getting the throttle body is that I've heard it improves sound when you've got an upgraded exhaust system on the 4.0. Thanks for the replies, that thread helped quite a bit.

I run a RE 62mm throttle body. It does improve throttle response a bit over stock. I have a borla header and front pipe, stock replacemnet cat, Stainless Flowmaster 40 series and it was a tad obnoxious in town. I added K & N FIPK and it is not as bad now.
