In KY, pretty much the only "testing" being done on a vehicle is in a major metro area, like Louisville, maybe Frankfort. Even then, at least back in 1998, if your car did NOT pass, you could get an exemption from further testing, provided that the cost of repairs was over $500 according to the estimate from a repair shop. Ever price a Cat. Convertor from a dealership? Makes it real easy to qualify for the exemption that way, know what I mean, Vern?

Care to elaborate on this? I actually live in IL. I moved from a non-testing zip to one that requires a test. I have been waiting to switch my registration because I know I have a little work to do. I am looking on the IL DMV site, but I haven't found anything about wacking the tests.

Edit: Nevermind. I found it. WOOOOOOHOOOOOO!!!!! I'm going legit!

I guess you could move to another part of California that's considered an attainment area by the Air Resources Board...no annual smog checks in these select areas. Only time you need to do a smog check is when you transfer ownership of the vehicle.... :idea:
