keeps the lake from over filling, when the water reaches the lip it flows down to the river behind the dam.

Interesting, I've never seen anything like that before. Anyone every use it to end their sorry life?
It would suck to have to clean up that mess.

Just as soon as I was beginning to hate GY they start coming out with tires that look good. I still don't want to pay for them!

Yikes!

Brings back nightmares I used to have as a kid....of getting sucked down the bathroom drain.

I can still hear the whirlpool sucking sound in my head!

.

the mess would clean itself. Either through runoff, or if that method is too slow they could just lap it a few times in a powerboat, slosh some water in there

Sometimes they're submerged a few feet below the surface and lead to a hydro turbine. Having an elevated intake keeps sediment and debris from damaging blades. Usually they have a grate to keep large objects out. Surprised you could get so close.

Maybe there is a gate slightly below the surface? Although that would not make sense because stuff could collect on top of it....that is wierd.....it looks like they have it blocked off from all sides but the coast side, where people would most likely be swimming from....

You would think that there would be a heavy duty fence around that thing. How wide is the inlet?

And those Goodyears are not on the goodyear website

They are Walmart only tires. They don't put them up on their website. Walmart = evil. I can't even order them at Sam's.

no gate, we swam out to it last year, straight down! nothing to stop you from falling to the bottom. the opening is roughly 10ft wide then its gets down to maybe 6 ft as you get about 10ft down. Ya your right Waterhammer, the neighboring lake has the grate for the GH, just not this one, its crazy to see the whirlpool as it falls.
