I blew out my pioneer 12" sub a few days ago and replaced it with a brand new Boss audio Chaos Exxtreme sub and its alot quieter than my old one.

Will the sub gett louder and hit harder as it brakes in?

a boss will never do what a decent brand name can do, at least not for very long.

Probably not. is it a lower watt sub than your old one? have you looked up the specs for the sub, some do better with different sized boxes. i have dual 12" subs, after i stapled fluffy cotton to the inside of the box it improved the sound. it sorta makes the box seem bigger to the sub is what i've heard.

Is it dual voice coils or single and are they in parallel or series? the way you wire up a DVC sub has a huge affect on the volume.

Very true! it could be that you had a different resistance with the pioneer and now it's amp is only outputing half. The sound of the sub is the only thing that will change after use. not loudness.

yes, after its used for a short while the surround material will soften and move better.

It all depends on the stiffness of the polyprolene surrounding as the surrounding tends to be made stiffer the higher wattage it's rated for. For example, i have a 2 1200w peak 300w rms JBL subs pushed by a 150 watt old school JBL amp (putting out more than 150, more like 500 at least) I hooked up a pioneer premier sub in a probox to that amp and it hit harder than both of my other subs. That being said, it was because the amp pushed the pioneer better/easier than the two other subs as they offered more resistance with the stiffer surrounding. Of course the difference between the probox and seal boxes did play into it as well, it was more or less mostly because of way those sub and amp went together better.

Long story short you may need a bigger amp :D
or you've chosen an inferior replacement sub, if so then next time i'd recommend JL audio, MTX, kicker, memphis, something along those lines

I haven't been into the audio thing much lately, but when Boss first came out they were pretty much considered crappy like pyramid products.
