Putting 6.5" speakers in the door of an XJ ???

Here's what I am talking about. It looks as if the rectangular cover is larger than the 6.5" cover and wouldn't look good at ALL if removed.

Any update on this? Trying to figure out my speaker situation in my DD 92 XJ. If I use the factory grilles, which I would like to do, will it block most of the sound making the larger speaker technically worthless? Should I just get the 5 1/4's and be done with it?

I've got 6" JL Audio mids in my doors and I'm using the stock door grills.Sound quality is fine and with stock grills it wont draw as much attention to would-be thieves (stealthy).

I put a pair of Infinity 6012si 6.5" speakers in the doors right below the window/lock panel and just took out the old 5.25" speakers all together. The 6012i speakers work well here because they are shallow and have built in grills (grills attach directly to the speaker, not the car). I took the door apart for the first side, but it wasn't necessary. I did the other side with everything still on the door. Just have to be careful not to cut away too much of the panelling.

The higher location is much better than the stock speaker location. ick.

Looks like a clean install. Too bad I got the ghetto style crank down window handle right where you got your speaker.

I got them in there, but when I cut the door panel I screwed my measurements all to hell. So now i have huge gas on either end, I need to find new door panels or find something to make it look better. Do to what I did you just need to drill new holes.
