Project: Rusty Nail

Old saying: "If you can't hide the pig, put some lipstick on it."

Check at summit or jegs for some colored harness coverings.

Nice rig.

haha I'll look into that Joe thanks!

wow that looks real nice. i wish my engine bay would look that clean.. the whole jeeps looks real nice. i might have to steal some ideas..

what kind of seats did you put in it?

and how did you get the engine bay so clean?

Thanks if you ever want to know somthing more specific just pm me. There the stock 91 seats after ALOT cleaning I did want to put some Saab 9000 seats in but after all the time I have into this i just really want to drive it for awhile. For the engine bay I basically had the engine out along with everything else so I just re spray it and used Purple Power to clean the old stuff.

What size are your gauges?

Jeep looks great, btw. You made chicken salad out of chicken shit! :)

haha 3/4 and thanks, the primer rear quarters are just driving me nuts still hopefully I'll paint it this week or the next.

I had double zeros at one time... Now they're just 4s.

Anyhow, I need to get motivated in replace the floor above my muffler and replace my rockers. Both have some rust holes. lol

Well not alot of pics but just doing some small stuff still interior, exhaust wrapping (more) and protecting things from heat.

First thing is I never showed anyone a complete under carriage shot.

A few have asked my why would I waste my time wrapping my exhaust... well this is a good reason why...

Much better angle after the cut and bend of my tail pipe

Also took the time to add my power steering cooler... is this maybe to small? I know it doesn't need much but this doesn't seem effective.

Some local club bling 8)

Well started the break down of my new 2001 4.0 to replace the current one. Nothing crazy just a complete rebuild with a very mild cam.

But this is what I found....
Engine_0005-1.jpg

It could be bad? haha it also scored the main bearing cap... machine it? or just run it?
IMG_0047.jpg

Also noticed the new lifters are a little different. They said it's definetely the right part so is it just a new design? they are a LITTLE shorter too. about .050

Engine_0003-1.jpg

And started cleaning my block up a bit... it's a little bright but I'm hoping once it's all built it should tone down

Anyone also know how to get around not having the temp sensor in the back of the head anymore? because with this head there's no more provisions for it. suggestions?

How was your oil pressure? Yikes.

Also, try boring another hole in the tstat housing and npt tap it, maybe, or put an adapter in one of the heater hoses before the heater control valve.

Why the hell are you putting that motor in it? Hope it's got the 0331 head junked at least, ps the RMS is different on 00 and 01 blocks

Looks good, it's nice to see someone put the time and effort into saving an XJ. How often does your club hold public runs? I'm just about to finish my 2 door and have been thinking of joining a local club.

I think i'm going to try out the Tstat housing idea, I have a couple to test it out on. What happened was the XJ we took it out of looked like maybe the owner hit the oil pan with the UCA and dented the oil pan, from there it broke the oil pump right off the block and starved it for oil. Also yes no 0331 head as well. :D and found that out already the pre 2000 RMS doesn't even come close.

Hey Pat, thanks! we do a public run about once a month, your more than welcome to sign up on the forum and sign up for the next public run. I believe it's in 3 weeks!

Engine is getting closer, here's the parts replaced list so far...

Crank shaft including main and rod bearings
Cam bearings
Lifters
pushrods
oil pump
oil pan

I really hope that's it. I might do a header if I can get a decent deal on one. Also gave up the hunt for a mild cam, no one seems to make them so oh well :\

At least it's shiny :D

Looks awesome... but I would have masked off the manifold gasket, OFA, and dizzy mounting surfaces  among others.

It's a cell pic so it's not the best, but the ofa was taped off it's just dark so it looks blue, the mainfold gasket was for the most part i just left the dowl pins exposed thinking I can sand them no problem, and yea I get a little overzealous with painting some times... but I'll make it right before she gets put together for good :)

I just wanted you to know this thread has made me feel a whole lot better about my rusted out rockers. I think you are a magician with the work you have put into this rig so far. I just bought my first jeep a week ago for 300 bucks. Needs some TLC but nothing like yours. Thank you for inspiring me to not sell it. Keep up the nice work!
