Thats commitment! :gag:
Keeping the rear 1/4 panels?
Too bad. As much interest as there is in building an XJ camping trailer, you could have posted the back shell for sale. Somebody would probably have taken it off your hands....,I cut the rear section up into 6 pieces (not including the hatch which I am keeping for the garage wall) and they will be going to the town dump.
Im gunna bug the crap outta you to work on this now!!! You still dont have axles yet, right? If I find you a set of GM 1tons for under $500, will you magically pull cash outta your butt and buy them?
I could donate some of my time to help you, but can only ganurentee ill drink beer, come up with ridiculous stories, answer random useless tech questions, and eat your food![]()
dont waste your time tryin to find cucv's just get some with 4.10's weld up the diffs then do a 4-1 300 or 231 300 doublerIf you can find me a set of CUCV axles for $500, I will find a way to buy them. I need to just go get some steel so I can start the rear framework and build my tubing bender.
Oh, and Ross: You can come over and drink my beer, come up with ridiculous stories, answer random useless tech questions, and eat my food anytime you want!

Yes, they would, but have you looked to see if that is the ratio you really want? Most people I've seen running 4.56s and ~39/40s are running transmissions other than the AW4 (like the NV4500 with either a 5.61 or 6.34 1st gear). The AW4 first gear is way up around 2.8.Yeah but 4:56's and a detroit from the factory would be nice...

Just means you'll have to drop some coin to get some lower gears in whatever t-case you run.
i see no reason on spending 450 for a rear detoit in a trail rig on a "budget" build, either spool or weld it, for a rear axle just scope the yards for a e350 van, its got a 60 isu, wich does not require boring of the spindles for 35 spline shafts and its got a smooth bottom, for the frt and late 80's 60 will do, and as bill said they can be had for 2-300Grab a D60 for $200-300 (don't say you can't, there are now four of us that all have got them for less that that), throw some gears of your choice (~$300ea with bearings/install kit x2) grab a locker for the rear (Detriot $450) and now you've got near the same cost in axles, but can save by throwing in a stock geared D300 or like. Plus you've got all new parts, not some unknown mileage axle.
Just throwing around ideas. Of course the above only really applies if you are keeping the AW4.
