Project: Hamburger Train

ok so I got the dizzy right on the first shot. the H train fired right up.

went to back it off the trailer and quickly learned that the rear brakes dont function, as I hit the brakes with the front wheels still on the trailer and pulled the trailed about 4 feet back with me and almost hit a lamp post.

after i got out of that debacle I pulled it in the drive way and immediately set forth ruining it.

I think the resale just went negative

also I just wanted to thank Andy for giving my the bright Idea to tie the jeep to the trailer via the leaf springs.

now one of my axle straps is caught in the wrap around bushing so hard it could probably act as my rear tow point.

I just did the same thing everyone does. But I did 2x8 instead of 2x6 to make more room for a winch. Then I tapered the ends. for style points.

got the front lift in. I hope my coil buckets dont fall off

so It turns out this thing is a major cancer victim. the front leaf hanger on the passenger side is not holding on to much where the floor used to be. now that Iv spent some time under it I found that probably 70% of the floor has been replaced. but not enough.

when I go to remove the bolt the whole mount flexes a lot instead of the bolt coming out. I think Im just going to run lift blocks and not risk ripping the hanger off.

based on the level of rust I might only run this jeep for a few years with not much done to it. so when it falls apart I dont have to much invested.

it doesnt look too bad in the pic but the metal that is still there is paper thin and flexes with just my fingers.

rear floors

that's all rust colored carpeting.

You might get a couple good runs if you're lucky, no way it lasts a couple years. I'd be worried about driving it at all with those front axle brackets.

Was that a good first comment in your thread?

That thing looks like my old 96. Possibly not even as bad.

I recommend slapping a 3 inch lift in, 33s, new front axle housing, wail the shit out of it for a year or two, have your eyes open for a replacement unibody.

I would have kept beating mine for another year but the trans exploded. Wasn't worth dragging home and putting another in.

Looks like my 94 except my leaf hangers and axle were fine. I wouldn't drive it without swapping that axle.

Wow, that coil area looks pretty bad.
Shoulda kept the other XJ huh? ;)

makes me wish I never ruined the other XJ, and never sold my 30/44 to build one tons.

but seeing as Im only into this XJ for a less than 500$ thats the new lift, distributor, and gas to go get it Im not too disappointed.

looks like Im going to be doing motor and trans mounts in the mj and trailering that down for nac fest. Id love to take the H train but Id have to trailer that too and Id be worried about getting it out of the woods.

Ill probably just slap some blocks in the rear of the H train and sell it for 800-1000$ to some dummy.
