i have a build thread going in the colorado chapter and had a few questions about coil springs and it was suggested i ask here...my question is:

i need your guys opinionon some coil springs...i currently have some 5" springs of an unkown brand and acos's raised up an inch in the front. This flexes really well but the springs are very soft, i get lots of body roll when rallying and they are waay to soft for jumping anymore, and the springs are starting to bow while the jeep is just parked. Since im planning of doing some go fast this summer i wanna ditch the acos and just get a 5.5-6.5" spring thats stiff enough for going fast/jumping but will still flex well for normal wheeling. Ive owned a pair of the 6" skyjacker coils in the past and they felt really good rallying but i never got to do much crawling with them. I wanted to know what you guys recomment for front springs, right now im thinking either deaver jeepspeed 5.5" coils or the 6" skyjackers. The skyjackers will be a lot easier on the wallet so im leaning towards those, but i really wanted some opinions before buying anything.

p.s. I know just buying new springs wont make my jeep ready to go out and jump, but i wanna get the springs situated first then get some bilstein 5150s and eventually either air bumps or the evs bumps

Heres a link to the build thread if anyone wants to check it out: http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=1075193

And heres a pic of my jeep in its current state, trying to get it ready to do a little crawling/racing this summer

If the springs are too soft, you need stiffer springs, that's on the right track. It's a trial and error thing, though, and the front and rear need some balance also. I'd try the 6" Skyjackers, I'm currently running them on my XJ and they're OK. Not too stiff, but yet reasonably stiff. Rides good and not harsh on the trail. I haven't done any go fast with this XJ, so can't give any info there. On my last XJ, I ran the 8" Skyjackers cut down one coil, and I really liked that spring for the go fast stuff and for rock crawling. It was a touch harsh for normal rocky trail running, but worth it. It was very stable around corners both on road and off road, but the rear springs have a lot to do with that.

BTW, what kind of tube work do you have forward of the A pillar??

I'm running 5.5" Deaver coils up front and they work great! It flexes great on the trail, rides good on the street, and handles go fast extremely well. At least for the easy stuff I've done at speed. I have no doubts that they'd continue to be awesome over rougher stuff as well.

right now theres no tube work on the front half, but soon im adding a stinger and a bar along the edge of each side of the hood back to the a-pillar bars then ill add a couple angle bars to make tube fenders and eventually a small engine cage...I think im gonna go ahead and commit to the deavers, i havent read a bad thing about them yet (except that one idiot who complained all over the internet about how bad they were painted lol)

Good idea, there is quite a bit of chassis flex forward of the A pillar, and being tubed out from the A pillar back would make it even worse.

Sounds like you're doing the Dirt Riot series in the mod class? We're planning to do a few of their races in the stock class.

yeah i know its not some huge class, but im working my butt off this winter trying to get ready for 3 dirt riot races this spring/summer lol
