What a goofy thread this one is... But I'll bite, sticking with jeep related stuff.

FUEL. Store a bunch of it. Make sure you can access it without power if need be. Carry extra on board the Jeep.
POWER. Get an inverter to run off the Jeep so you can power small AC items.
BASIC PARTS, SUPPLIES, SPARES - duh
UPKEEP: Make sure it's reliable and ready to go at all times.
WINCH. With accessories. Move stuff, get unstuck. Hoist with it.
WEAPON STORAGE. Some easily accessible from drivers seat, other stuff hidden for emergency use. Ammo storage too.
NVD's: Gotta be mobile at night without lights, provide Jeep power so you don't need hoards of batteries.
RUGGED: Build it not to break, doesn't have to be the most awesome trail rig, but you want to be able to beat on it if you have to with breaking it.

None of this matters if Nukes are involved. :attom: Your electronics will be toasted by the first good EMP unless extreme (mil spec) measures are taken to harden them.
 
Yeah I wasn't planning on driving straight into a hail of gunfire, unless I had a bomb inside to take the enemy down:-) I was planning on sticking to the woods and such. The Chattanooga area is definitely an ideal place for survival; Geographically isolated, a great source of water, caves, trails, woods, the underground portion of the city, 90 miles away from any nuclear target, plenty of backwoods government-hating survivalists, and lots of Dr. Strangelove fans lol. I think I am starting to turn into the real-life version of Burt in Tremors.

Ideally, this would be the perfect fuel setup...

If WWIII is coming then it looks like I will have to trade off my '01 and 90 XJs for one land rover. Sorry but Land Rovers are more durable and trail ready stock than xj in a catostraphe like this.:twak:

You could drive to a cable company, take down their HUGE sat dishes, and cover your rig with it before the blast! :)
 
So heres what you do...

1. Go and see "I am legend"
2. Study the ford that will smith drives
3. Check out this site http://www.expeditionportal.com/
4. Take some of those ideas and apply them to your XJ
5. Then finally sit and wait in your basement with a radio scanner and flashlight and hope for the best.
 
This has got to be the most retarded thread I have ever seen.

Prepare the hell out of your XJ. As New Orleans (if not common sense) has shown you, there won't be anywhere to go anyways. Roads and side roads full of cars that were not prepared and/or out of gas, and trails full of people who want what you have a lot more than you do.

If you're that worried about it, get out of the city now and start preparing somewhere distant from any major populace.

There's no protection really, which is why the heep is only going to be useful for getting to your hideout before something bad happens locally.

Think about it, if you live in DC it won't matter anyway because you won't be there so do you really need a getaway plan? NO. If you live in Denver or Atlanta or something you might have an hour to get out of town. If you live in ~New Mexico (or can make it to your obscure hideout) then no worries until the electric grid and local gas supplies run out. :)
