power/gearing question...

I'm thinking of starting a stroker project. (no hurry at all: my current 4.0 is still under warranty!)
Would more hp/torque lessen the need to change gears if I wanted to run 33s with my current 4:11s? I'm not sure if the stroker would change where the powerband is enough to offset the taller gears.
So with a stroker, would I still need to go with 4:56s or 4:88s to run 33s well?

i had 33s and 4.10s with both a stick and an auto and my tired '200k mile '88 4.0. it wasn't that bad, but i sure like the 4.88s a lot better. with a strong running stroker, I would think 4.56 would be ideal, but 4.10s would be totally doable if you get a really good deal or something. also, if you have D44s, there are 4.30 gears for those, a choice in between.

I would do gears before a stroker. If you only put on street miles it might be fine, but the torque converter is still going to slip a bunch at lower speeds and the stock stick stills crawls to fast for me. Lower gears.

If you like playing in the mud and want the wheel speed, a little higher gears would probably be fine. If you want all around wheeling get some low gears. You can still get the wheel speed up in high range and some pretty good wheel speed in low.

You running an auto or 5-sp? A stroker/5-sp/4.10's/33's combo works great, especially if you do a lot of highway driving. TC
