Power Door Locks Stopped Working (Searched, but to no avail)

Hi all,

Further to the subject, I just got done installing a new headliner in my 93' 2-door Sport and when I went to lock the doors from the driver's side (by pressing the switch in the door trim "electrical panel"), I got nothing. So, I went around the passenger's side and tried that switch as well, but again, no luck.

FWIW, I can still manually lock and unlock the doors by either using the key outside, or by pressing the lock button itself on each door, but no luck with the main electric control which was working literally minutes before I took the headliner out.

The only electrical parts that I took out while changing the headliner were the remote control module that's located between the front sun visors, which was a little bit tough to unplug, but it came loose after not too much effort, and the interior light in the centre of the interior - which, incidently, I had to pull the bulb from a while ago b/c it wouldn't turn off when I closed the doors.... (and yep, I checked the lights/interior light toggle and it was definately in the "off" position).

Any ideas ?

Thanks in advance,

Sounds like you might have pinched a wire and it is grounding out and keeping the light on. As for the door locks,I would check the fuses to see if you may have blown one. Also as you mentioned removing the remote control panel you may have damaged a wire there. The wires run from there down to the kick-panel on the passenger side to 2 relays. One to open the door and one to close the door. I don't think it would be the relays, but it's worth a look.

Where are the relays? I have an 89 and the door lock switches just don't seem to have the power to lock and unlock. right now the passenger door will lock and unlock. The driver door whe using the door switch will move slowly. if I hit the door switch a few times it will finally get there. The rear hatch would not even work at all. It is getting power just not enough to move the lock actuator. I out a brand new one in there and now worky!

What to try next?

Thanks,
Matt

The relays are behind the the passenger side kick panel.

I have the same problem and am planning to do the additional relay fix soon.

The door locks go through a breaker 30 amp automatic breaker switch on fuse panel not a fuse. Sounds like you have a short to ground keeping the breaker from resetting. Greg

I am not aware of such a write up. But it sounds like you are triggering the 30 amp circuit breaker for the locks. On the 89 the circuit breaker is a small rectangular metal can on the fuse panel under the dash. Circuit breakers usually reset after they cool off. They are usually triggered by a short to ground or perhaps it is a weak circuit breaker (try exchanging it for another one on the fuse panel. Good Luck. Merry Christmas! Greg
