ponies on the cheap!

This is a '99 Intake:

Perhaps the export version used the '98 Intake instead? I've noticed sometimes the exports lag behind a bit.

The '99 XJ intake was still the old log style. The XJ only got the curved runner intake in '00-'01.

While it's true that the mods I suggested will only yield small gains, the cost is also small. A performance cam is really a waste of time unless you port the head while it's off and if you're going to go strip down 2/3 of the engine to do a cam swap, you might as well go all the way and build a 4.6 stroker 'cause you'd probably need to refresh the bottom end of a 12 year old engine anyway.
Once you've done that, all those other little mods I mentioned earlier will complement the stroker build so they're still worth doing.

Some early 99s came with log style intakes and some came with the newer curved runners. My cousin has a bone stock 99 and it has the curved runner intake.

Well for right now I am just going to do the bored tb electric fans and port and polish the intake manifold. My jeep already has the curve runner intake so just gonna port and polish it. Then this winter I will do a tear down. Port polished head and large cam. Haven't decided on stroker yet. It may happen too depending on funds

and im sure this is a really dumb ? but like i said earlier i dont really know alot about performance parts or that kind of stuff on jeeps but i am catching on pretty quick. how can you tell what head you have? which one is the one you want? all that stuff hell im not even sure which transfer case/transmission i have. i see all the different numbers/letters/types on here and im not even sure what i have? or which one is the best to have. all i do know is that im trying to build a good all around jeep. suspension is done. next on the list is hd steering and all that junk. then i will start on the motor. hopefully by the end of this summer i will have those 2 things done and end up knowing a hell of a lot more

You are going to need a cam and lifters at a minimum. Old lifters on new cam equals junk engine. Depending on the lift, you may also need valve springs. If you pull it appart that far, you should do a valve job and seals at a minimum and depending on the state of the guides, you may need to sleeve the guides. NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, NEVER knurl the guides.

It's a bit of a haul, but probably closer to you than it is to me. There's a place in Franklin that used to specialize in rotary-powered Mazdas, but have started building Jeep motors as well. I have no clue about them, but saw that they were trying to move some stock rebuilds and 4.6L strokers on CL for a while. Might be worth checking them out when you're ready to get after it.

So what does it cost to do a 4.6 stroker?

Depends on what parts you put into it, how much machine shop work is required, and who's building it. Cost is about ~$800 more than a stock rebuild if the only non-stock parts you put into it are the 258 crank, IC944 pistons, and bigger injectors.

99's have the 0630 head, if an auto, the aw4; if no full-time 4wd, you have the 231 case; if no abs, you have the 29-spline 8.25" Chrysler rear; you have a high-pinion dana 30 front. 99's are a good year for the newer shape Cherokees.

I wanna say that I have the 35 rear. How many spine would it be. I've heard not as good as the 8.25

Does the rear diff have a flat bottom(8.25) or a round bottom(35)? I should have said if you have abs, then you definitely have the dana 35(never an option on the 8.25"). I'm not sure but maybe there are non-abs 35s out there.

It's a 35 I'm pretty sure. It has the hump in dif cover. Aren't 8.25s just smooth domed
