ponies on the cheap!

i would run nos but its a little sketchy. dont wanna blow it up. this winter if i can fit the rebuild/stroker in the budget i would run a little cheater bottle or something. 50 shot

Build a 4.6 or bigger.
I have a 1991 4.0 (60 over bore on rebuild) with all the goods:
high compression piston
Hesco throttle Body
Hesco CAI
ported polished head
Gibson header and exhaust no cat
Mopar stage II cam (p4529229ab 246 dur. with .440 lift)
Bosch 4 hole performance injectors
Screaming Demon ignition & 9.5 mm Live wires
Map adjuster mod
adj. fuel pressure regulator

And all I have to say is "it's still a six". Yes I can smoke a stock jeep, but it is not worth what i have in it. Stroke it or do an engine swap. Building a jeep 4.0 is fun and there is a lot to learn from it. Look at the overall cost to what you get or really want. almost any mild built v8 will smoke my build 4.0. some good small bolt-on's to a healthy v8 will smoke a stroke 4.6. Decide what you really want before you drop the $$$. If I had to do it all over again I would do a simple 4.6. But after I rebuilt my 4.0 and still on the quest for power and tried all the add-on that just don't add up!
cheers and good luck

mopar just came out with the 4.7 stroker driectly from them you can get 265hp and 360 ft-lbs of torque draw back is the $7,000 price tag. The nice thing is its a complete roller set-up with warranty

Ok so in about a month I'm gonna have some xrta $. A stroker is out of the question for now. But what are some good mods to do. Already have the curve runner intake. And going to get 62mm tb. Any other ideas?

Ok so everyone says gears are the biggest difference that I will notice....so what would the best best gear be? Just a reminder those is a dd and I don't want something ridiculous on gas. I have auto with 33s on it. What would be a good gear for my jeep? And as far as that goes. A good brand a place to get a set?

As with what most people say. If you do not plan to go larger than 33" then 4.56's is the sweet spot. 4.88 maybe. There are plenty of vendors on here that can help you out. I would search the sponsor/vendor area. I know RobertK has reasonable prices on gears/lockers etc.

I went down maybe 1mpg with stock tires going from 3.07 to 3.55. Depending on what your gears are now, you could see some gains. (Better acceleration response= you not giving it as much gas.)

Ok so I'm looking for some 4.56s? Where would be the best to buy a set? And what all do I need? Like I've said before this is my first time building all on my own. Before it was already done or I had it done by a shop

Yah 4.56 would be your best gear choice for 33s. Yah if you use the formula to figure out what gear ratio you need a 4.10 or 4.11 would be closer but after the added weight of the tires, wheels, and any bumpers and other accessories you get, the extra grunt that the 4.56s give you will be very helpful pushing all of that around. You will need the gears and a master rebuild kit for each axle. Also all the necessary tools to do this kinda work are very expensive and will run you almost as much as the labor to have it done by a professional so you need to figure out if this is going to be your only time working on differentials or if you will be doing this alot. I am not saying it isn't worth it to do yourself just making sure you are aware you will only save yourself money in the long run but not the first time.

and also a new carrier for the D30.

Well I work in a body shop where we have a full time mechanic so labor is free:spin1: and what kind of carrier? I was thinking some sort of locker but still being a dd don't want something full time but wanna stay cheap.

Well aren't you lucky haha Well you can eitherr buy thick gears and use your current carrier or you can buy a new carrier for 3.73 and numerically higher gears. I have looked around at lockers and there is virtually no selectable locker less than $600. If somebody knows of a good selectable locker for cheaper than that please step in because I am looking for one too.

The Ritz Power Shift

Ritz power shift enhances engine power,
The gas mileage of your car will become much much better with Ritz Power Shift and will increased up to 15% to 20% on the freeway.
If the motor of your car burns oil and sometimes white smoke comes out, then both these problems will disappear totally after 12 hours of using Ritz Power.
Ritz Power Shift will change the roaring sound of your old engine to a silent one.
The low-end torque delivery will decrease and there will be reduced engine vibrations.
Long drives will become smoother including gear shifts, clutch, and accelerator.
Ritz Power also improves sound system inside car.

how about if i just get thicker gears and keep my carrier...any locker that's good without a whole carrier? Powertrac? I know nothing about them? Just seen them in quadratec for $300-$400. But they are only for 90-93. What's different about the 35s in a 90-93 vs. my 99? Sorry for all the ? But like I said I'm still learning
