an extra 170$ for a weaker set of tires...

Ramsey or anyone,

Tell me you're running Bias on the road some.. I mean my jeep will be driven to the trails (most within 2 hrs, tellico is 4.5). And I like to drive it around town on the weekends.... I'd like to be able to run 65-70mph also.

Should I still go Bias? You're right they're much cheaper I can pretty much buy 5 Bias for the price of 4 radials...

I've seen a side by side comparision and the bias is a little bigger, more round, much softer. The radial is a little wider, more squared off, stiffer and heavier...

I need to decide by tomorrow...
thanks,
chris

based on your choices i would go with the irok radila if your going to do any street driving. if it were me i would go with the toyo m/t. i have beat the hell out of mine at 8psi in rocks, on stumps, and in mud. they are pretty sticky on the rocks too. not the best mud tire out there but they do better than the mtr's i used to run. just my .02

I run bias iroks. I didn't spend the money on bead locks though. 15*8 with a 13.5" wide tire.... I run down to 6 psi and have not lost a bead (yet).

I am balanced with about 2,000 airsoft pellets per tire. I drive 4-500 miles per week in my heep. Iroks wear fast, but are by far the best interco tire I have ever run. They are even round like normal tires!

I love MTR's and toyo mt's as well, better on road and in pure rock type situations. For my next set of tires I am thinking of going with 37" mtr's... but these Irok's have done extremely well.

As for driving at higher speed with bias Irok's... I don't like going much faster than 70. I have run upwards of 80, I don't recommend it. I try to keep under 70, tires run smooth but as they wear they will follow ruts in the road more frequently causing more corrections to be needed. I don't like that at speed!

When my wife called and said her water broke I had my jeep going very quickly down the road to get home. I am running 4.88's so 5th gear at 2000 rpms is 55mph, 3,000 rpms is around 70. I was closer to 4500 rpms on a strait stretch. That was stupid, but I was more concerned with getting home. I look back and think I was suffering from mild retardation at that moment.

what made you quit? no more tread?
mileage sucked, and yes there was noticeable tread wear.
I only DD'd them during our freak winter month here in OH. Because my street tires are just about shot.

I ran my bias play TSL's 6 hours to a park in KY.
other than the noise and the treadwear it's fine.
Honestly, consider some stock steelies and road tires.
You can take the money you saved buying the bias, put that into highway tread. Get better mileage to the trails, get way better handling/wear and you'll get a tougher tire for the trails.
I stuff the TSls in the bed, swap them when I get to where I'm going for the weekend, then swap them before we hit the highway to come home.
It doesn't take long to swap 4 tires if you're prepared.

Well, it's done....

I eneded up ordering (5) 36x13.5x15 Bias Iroks from 4 Wheel Parts (they price matched the cheapest I found).

I also went w/ MT Classic II's ...

So, (5) Iroks, (5) Classic II's, Mount & Balance, New Lugs, and Full Warranty = $1634.00 out the door... would have been cheaper but the Fed Taxes are about ridiculous...

We'll see how they do, I'll pick them up when I get back from Jamaica...

EDIT: If I start driving more on the road Im just gonna find some used AT's...

Buddy of mine wheels the IROKs, he wishes he still had the TSL/SX's he sold me.

I've got a set of 35" MTR's for the XJ. Everything I've read and personal observations on the trail say this is the best overall tire for a DD/wheeler. I'll run them, decide for myself for certain, and then make the call in a few years when they need replacing.

I'll be honest with you... I go through tires about as quickly as I go through running shoes... I've never kept a set of tires for more than a year.. Hopefully the Iroks will stay around longer. I had some MTR's once and they were the loudest, worst riding tire I've ever owned. They cupped badly and never stayed balanced... But the XJ was a DD then.. now it's not so we'll see how the Bias Iroks work..

I hope to have everything on and maybe take shakedown run to Tellico over Memorial Day weekend...

You would not liek the MTR's arround here UNCC. They will pack up bad on the stuff we run. Hell My Cooper STT's cleaned better then MTR's at Uwharrie.

That's my main concern about the MTR's off road. I've seen them pack up pretty good with mud, but they seem to do really well on all other types of terrain. A lot of guys are really sold on the TRXUS Swampers, I'll certainly give those a look when the MTR's wear down.

And I sure as Hell hope to get more than a year out of them. I put less than 10K on the XJ annually, I'd better get a solid 20-30K out of the MTR's. I plan on rotating them with every oil change (3K) as I hear that helps them wear much better.
