He has one more available...brand new still in the box...$350 he's asking for it.

Built this to make easy access to some items and to secure items for safety when wheeling. You can access the under side from the rear hatch or flip the rear seat down. On top is 5 lb extinguisher, first aid kit, Hi Lift and more room to use for tie down points for other stuff. Underside can hold 4 of the Rubber Maid Action Packers or a ton of other stuff nice and secure.

when you get into a head-on collision, that hi-lift is going to rip out of the plywood, come flying forward and decapatate you and your passengers...

please move that lower behind the seat, at least?!

jus' sayin..

ya never know, he could have a plate on the bottom side and it kind of sandwiched the wood between them... but i agree, move it lower

If he gets into a head-on collision, I think he has far more problems than the high lift.

Just saying ... but I do agree that it's not the best place for a large piece of steel.

DirtyJeeper, what's holding the board/shelf up? How did you attach it?

I'll bring back an old thread...

This is a drawer made by a company called TruckVault. It was built to specifically fit the XJ. They make them for all sorts of SUVs.

I got this one used off a guy on Craigslist for $100. When I opened it up, there was a Teraflex 1 1/2 inch lift kit in it (coil spacers and rear axle shackles!)

The part on the far left, where the fire extinguisher is mounted is a lift door to access that little indent in the side molding. Just large enough to keep a pair of gloves, jumper cables, and a funnel.

It didn't come with the cargo net. I had an extra from a ZJ and just screwed 4 OEM tie down brackets from a wrecked XJ.

Score on the truck vault.

Score on the truck vault.

I'll say...not only was it cheap, but he installed a brand new lock he had for it since the old one was bound up, AND he had a Tera-flex 1.5" shackle set inside he sold me for $5 more, AND when I called for directions to his house, he was less than 2 miles away from my house!

It's people like you that make me sick.... :shhh: :looser: :puke:

(Internet sarcasm disclamer.... Please note I am being sarcastic here.)

I took some inspiration from the XXXpedition XJ to build my cargo area and sleeper jeeper camping area. I'm away from my home and garage for 3 months at a time, 9 months of the year, so the Jeep has to hold all the tools and gear. I just rebuilt the cargo box in the back and the passenger fender box is old.

Pics from when I first built mine. I wanted to add a place to put the Viair and Tank. It's bolted through the floor, the fire ext is on one side with a Flashlight mounted on the other.
Plenty of room inside for parts, oil, Straps, tools that don't fit in the small tool box. With the tool box I wanted to be able to pull it out when I needed without lifting the lid.

It's been in for a couple of years now and the MDF is starting to show wear, looking at some of the pics here I may have to rebuild soon.

I also have straps going to the factor cargo mounts that I put on when wheeling, Just not sure how well the latches were going to hold in a roll over.

Ok ok ok, who makes those tail light boxes???

Here's mine. Basically just a shelf that I slide stuff under and can tie stuff on to. A change I recently made to the original design was to make the front flat. The first one one, had the front angled to match the rear seat. That was dead space so based on this thread, I cut the front straight down and now I use that area to store spare shafts. I get to them by flipping down the rear seat.

The requirements were:

1. I don't want the stuff to hit me in the head if I roll
2. I want to be able to get to the stuff easily
3. I wanted the stuff out of the way, day to day
4. I want to be able to unload everything easily
5. I wanted a flat area with tie downs for "other stuff"
6. Cheap (used an old desk and scrap wood)
7. Simple

my question is... is your wood screwed or bolted down to the floor? if not it will still get you in a roll over.

my question is... is your wood screwed or bolted down to the floor? if not it will still get you in a roll over.

That is not necessarily true. My truck vault box (photo a page or 2 back probably) is not bolted down and I have no worries in a roll over.

Remeber the back seat is slanted upwards. So if the top of the box where it meets the seat is deeper from the seat to the hatch than the top of the seat is to the hatch, the box can't possibly break loose, unless the seat comes unhooked. And I am not too worried about that either, becuase, if you've ever tried to lay down the back seat with the cushions down, it only moves an inch or 2 at best.

Example: the top of my truckvault to the back hatch is 33" and the top of the back of the seat to the back hatch is 29". A 33" inch solid container will not slip through a 29" hole.
